GPU overheating, because Precision XOC keeps turning off auto fan control
So I have EVGA GTX 970 Super Clocked (blower) and recently the EVGA Precision XOC would set the fan speed to minimum and disable auto fan speed control. So while in game the GPU would reach 91C and then fan would briefly speed up to 5650RPM to cool it down (100% fan speed normally maxes out at around 3500RPM, so I know this is really bad for the longevity of my GPU, and sounds like a turbine engine was started near me), which then makes me realise that auto fan speed has been disabled and GPU was running at 1150RPM all this time. This usually happens after computer was either restarted or shut down and booted back up again, but now it also happens randomly throughout the day. Precision XOC is set to start with windows and is always running, since default fan profile for this card is not sufficient enough (card fan speed never goes above 50%). This issue startted after I updated my Windows 10 PC with the newest big update (don't really remember how it is called now, creators update?)

Things I have tried doing to solve this:
Reinstall Precision XOC - Didin't work

After computer starts go to Precision XOC and click on auto fan button, if it is disabled. (usually it
is disabled, but sometimes it starts enabled and then throughout the day sets itself to be
disabled, that could also be due to windows updates restarting my computer, but I can never
know that, because computer is usually left running for most of the day, even when I am not
using it) - somewhat works, if I also don't forget about checking Precision XOC once computer
starts

Set all settings, with automatic fan control, then close Precision XOC and open it again, to see if
settings are still saved - they are. - Doesn't work, after PC is restarted, or shut down and turned
back on, Auto setting in fan control is disabled.

Really do not know what to do else, because I can't just keep constantly checking if fan control is still set to auto, and then only find out that it is not, when my GPU fan starts sounding like a turbine engine. Any suggestions, what could be causing it, how to solve it?

Honestly this software is unstable. Useful for putting an overclock in place, enabling the apply OC at start up option then closing it and never opening it again. With the program closed your fan should work fine as there will be nothing interfering with it. If you need manual control of the fan there are numerous other more reliable software.

If you are not overclocking I would just uninstall this completely. Your card should work fine without it.

What other software would you recommend, because the main reason I am using this is for a custom fan profile, the card I have EVGA GTX970 SC (blower cooler) has a problem of default fan profile being too low (fans never work above 50% or 60%, don't remember exactly, which leads to card getting really hot under default clocks, we are talking about 85-90C, where with custom fan profile, max temperature it ever reached was 80C and usually stays at around 70-74C while in games)

You could try MSI's Afterburner software, see if it works any better. You could also look on EVGA's website for an older version of Precision X. I think this one is primarily meant for the 10xx series cards. The older ones may be more stable too.
