TRIBES 3: Rivals

TRIBES 3: Rivals

What's up with the weird decisions?
The development seems like a PR roller coaster, almost every week some new controversy pops up:

- Adding AI art
- Adding Denuvo
- Removing Honorball
- Banned content creators and valid feedback
- Obfuscated Bots intended to mimic actual players (you can even "report" bots now)
- Single gamemode, no mods or server browser.
- Talks of moving to 2 other unrelated projects soon after early access.
- 2 skin passes for a game that just started early access.

EDIT: They finally made a roadmap after a lot of back and forth. It's a barebones but at least its better than none. It does list bugfixes as a feature tho, this also came with the news that the game will launch into early access with 2 skin passes.

- Placeholders / early art + devs confirmed starting with AI but having a person "finish" the graphics by hand. I'm not a fan of AI graphics in games but this is such a small feature

- Denuvo anti-cheat, not DRM. Sucks if they support Denuvo but it's not DRM

- Honorball should have stayed as a T3 game mode. This is legit one of the worst moves they've made

- Creators and feedback are not banned. I've given lots of feedback, including telling Erez he was wrong

- Bots mimic players badly, that's what they do in every game. In T3 they replace empty player slots (up to 4) so that games launch quickly. They then get replaced by humans as players join. The overall experience is objectively better with them. The experience for new players is light-years better with them on as default in casual

- CEO is protecting the team from scope creep and over promising. This community is infamous for overreacting and wanting everything and being extremely salty if their personal vision isn't realized

- Early days of the game, they want maximum player retention in a focussed mode. I disagree that this is best and I think keeping Honorball as another mode would be better

- companys having multiple projects is normal

Edit: if this incredibly mild take offends you to the point of clowning please reconsider some things 🤡

I'm not necessarily critiquing the game or these features by themselves. I'm more just concerned with the PR aspect of it (as i want the game to have more players).

and no matter how well AI art or Denuvo is implemented its gonna make the game have a hit in controversy, just like banning the content creators (i didn't really intend all feedback just the controversy that already happened) just listing things that have happened so far.

"It's like people think I want to kill games for some strange reason"
--Erez, CEO of Prophecy Games

I agree, they seem to be making a lot of baffling decisions. Constantly shooting themselves in the foot. Deadzone was similar, but to a more extreme.

I hope Tribes 3 survives EA release, but sigh...

It's a mix from both sides. Prophecy has made several stupid decisions, and the community has overreacted to some decisions. These things combined make it seem worse than it is.

I'm pretty sure all of these reasons were why the last tribes died relatively quickly compared to other multiplayer games.

I love that there are many more pressing issues, but they decided it was important for us to have no way of knowing if there are bots in the game. Erez was frustrated that we sniffed it out, then he was frustrated that we began discussing it, and now they've hidden the one way (apart from watching them, good god) to tell bots apart from players. He really wants this game to bleed a little slower. This way people won't know they're playing a dead game, at least for a bit.

I have just come to the point where i wonder what is even happening with this.

What a massive circus.
This game is DOA for sure.
Wait will they really be adding Denuvo? I was fine with EAC and all that I want good anti cheat but I dont want denuvo crap. Seeing older shooters coming back had my hopes up. I guess I will just keep hoping carmack takes on quake again somehow..

I believe they are going with combination of EAC and Denuvo now

Tribes 2 was the last Tribes game. Everything since has been a hot mess.

They aren't. The last Tribes died because of terrible monetization on top of unbalanced weapons and being unfriendly to new/all players.

Ironically, if you Google what killed Tribes Ascend the lists you get will include lack of anti-cheat, vehicles feeling forced, and poor new player experiences.

their extraction shooter was complete garbo

The main reason TA died is those obnoxious hackers like "Solly" and our utter helplessness to do anything about them because Hirez abandoned the game but kept us in a jail of centralized servers.

im feeling really bad about this.
