Unlocking Gorgon Eye

Does anyone know if you buy something in the shop does it count as interacting with an npc?

Well, shops are NPC areas, so... probably can't buy anything at all.

you can't buy anything at all. anything where you hit 'w' in a town is an NPC.

it really isn't that bad. only thing you can't rely on is getting the best tools from NPCs. i admit not having armor makes your HP an issue. i recommend making HP potions one at a time to maximize the number of big HP Potions. you should be OK then.

edit: my advice is to range or mage everything. chests are your friend as they may contain HP bonus gear, bars or blades. be careful at a low base HP with obsidian blade, or other enchanted items with HP bonus. if you heal up and then switch off the weapon/tool in your hotbar it will reduce your HP back to normal, eating the HP you healed up. not a big deal in other games but unlocking the eye can be troublesome in this way.

i recommend avoiding obsidian blade and HP bonus weapons/tools (tools would be made through the artisan trait) all together. that was my biggest trouble i found because i kept healing up then switching to pickaxe and would loose 2-5 HP i just healed. and i tried to adapt to it but i would stay half healed so i wouldn't loose HP when switching; but then i died a lot easier because I was around 4-6 HP the whole game. oh yeah, ancient bat poops out random items! such a good feature.

Hey I forgot to tell you guys but I beat this challenge yesterday. Not too bad, did it first try. Now time for the damn floaty slime. Any tips on that one?

Woah O.o, the farthest I've gotten is like... level 9. I'm not very good at this game and I have no idea why.

Still, for people searching for this information in the future...

I read that picking up any wood or sticks will cause you to fail the challenge, so for that one you should be very careful with treasure chests. When you open one, quickly jump or dash away so you don't pick up wood/sticks accidentally.

I used a Remnant with the Dragon hat and Gorgon Eye. My strategy was this:

Spam Fireballs at everything, win.

Got it on the first try.

If you want floaty slime just do the speed run with the scrougeling, bat wing and gorgon eye. Easy. If you do it well, you can also unlock the djinn. Also for unlocking gorgon eye you can use the boosts you get from the platforms at the entrance of every city. Just did an experiment with it and you can indeed unlock the gorgon eye with boosts you get. For the future viewers of this thread.
