Is there a way to select just one of a certain item or material in your inventory?

I just started playing this game and so I'm a total newbie, but one of the things I keep doing by accident is, when I want to create one axe handle for example, I split my material in two and end up crafting all of my sticks into a ton of handles. I know I can right click to reduce the numbers, but it seems like there should be a shortcut here; if I have 50 sticks, that's 25 clicks, unless I want to throw a bunch of things out of my inventory to make room and keep dividing by half. Is there a keyboard shortcut to either:

1) select 1 of an item/material, or

2) only craft one of an item from the selected pools of materials?

Left click to pick up entire stack then right click to place just 1 down somewhere. Then left click the rest of the stack somewhere else. Now you should have a stack and a single, when when crafted will create just 1 of the item.
