How do I mine ores.

I've spent a good hour trying to figure out how to make a pick axe on this game or something to mine the ores or rocks. I seriously can't figure it out for the life of me. Someone bestow your wisdom upon me, please.

Use a stick on a stick then use the axe handel you get with a stick to get a pickaxe handel.

also, if you use a wood pick you wil only find stone and coal
with a stone pick you can get iron
with iron pick you can get gold
with gold pick you can get diamond
