HOW DO I GET THIS STUFF TO SPIN?!
so im tryng to make a helicopter, i think ive got the basics, one engine, a spin control doohicky and im as light as i can be, but i dont know how to get the blades to spin! any help on not just this but if im missing anything for a helicopter would be greatly appreciated.

I really hate how the spin blocks are setup...when your in build mode, place your block over the spin block, then press q...you have to change the rotation to automatic or continious (I forget which one it is) so that when you try and life off, go forward, the blade keeps spinning

I dont know why this isnt set as default lol

Well to controll spin blocks you either need to set up their controll for a complex controller, use a spin block controller or use the automated controller and set that up to change the rotation speed.

Thats getting pretty advanced right there, he has to get them to spin first ;D

Well you can use a Automatic Control Block or a ACB and use the "Activates upon spawning/activates ever seconds" and then go to what it affects which is the second coloum and set it to "Spin Blocks" then the third colum and set the rotation speed to max or whatever speed you want! Have fun experimenting!
Basically, you build the rotors (can't use mirror mode), then in the control overlay you click once on U to make it green, twice on J to make it red. Set it to "Continuous" spin mode, then add a complex controller and hold U for a while, see what happens

If the rotor pushes you down, you can set it to "Continuous reverse", and done.

Remember that rotors do impose a horizontal torque on your craft just like in real life, so you either have to build it like a Chinook with two rotors moving in opposite directions, or you need some kind of stabilization.

Or you can use jets and a weak engine and it'll automatically try to fly when you set the second option the of the AI in Aerial AI to 180 and have it very easily fly thoughout its lifw :P Also Jet stabilizers "Kind of" work.
You can also hook up those vertical jets to a drive maintainer and adjust your height manually. Still, they suck for water starts and draw a ton of power depending on how many you need.

Technically all my Helicopters do not need jet stabilizers and the just have weak jets to push them along! as a AI and just toot along raining missile death upon the enemies, they can rise up from the sea because of the lift provoided from the blades, even though one Helicopter in particular I've made is pretty much a jet with a helicopter blade keeping it steady and it still flys like a normal jet :P
Costs very little aswell, hoping we helped Skyrunner to build a helicopter now.

well damn. i wake up and ive got a hail of knowledge and things to try. off to experiment i guess

We're helpful Skyrunner, this hail of knowledge is something you'd best get used to!

Spin blocks don't need an engine. For a heli setup a main rotor, a smaller tail rotor and a front rotor. You need the front rotor b/c you can't pitch the blades or the main rotor to make the craft move forward....yet. That would require a spin block on a spin block which you can't do. You can use jets but balancing that can be a nightmare. Once you have that setup you can get a spin block controller that will handle all the directions for you. Optionally you can use the complex controller to set the commands for each rotor. To do that press ] to cycle between your rotors. Once you do that make sure you move down one block relative to the rotor to the actual spin block and press Q. The rest has been explained here. I'm not sure why cycling the rotors doesn't actually land on the spin block. It always lands one above it which is annoying but not game breaking. You will have to experiment with what direction the blades should spin. If you try the main rotor and your craft starts to sink, it is turning the wrong direction. Trial and error is the only way I can get all of the rotors to do exactly what I want.

Or, you could use a ACB put a front spin block with some heli-blades and have a seperate spin block above acting as the lift.

Ok, i saw this and I have a different problem: my blades don't spin. The dedicated heli-spjn block, and all it's attachments spin, but not the blades that i attach, no matter where I put them. Any ideas as to why that could be?

They have to be directly apart of the Dedicated Helicopter, and not using the Helicopter Blades, but using the Dedicated Helicopter Blades, also make sure you are using ACBs.
