Local weapon controller and AI controlling turrets
I've built quite a large "battleship-esque" vessel that has a few large turrets and secondary weapon systems and I cannot get the AI to control and fire the main guns mounted on the turrets or fire turret mounted torpedos.

The local weapon controllers are either mounted beside or directly under the weapon systems and attaching failsafes in any direction doesnt work either. I managed to get a receiver mounted and it says its controlling 1 weapon (which should be right, its one entire precision turret afterall) but the guns and torpedoes just dont train or fire at the enemy.

Ive managed to get them to control my VLS laser guided system so I dont feel that its a problem with my AI card setup.

Do I need to setup more than 1 mainframe with cards to control different systems or does 1 main system with a transmitter work?

There's probably a small issues somewhere, as it doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong, but thankfully troubleshooting should be fairly easy for this! Make sure that you've got an AI transmitter on your AI mainframe (you could attach it to connectors THEN to the mainframe, but this allows for more potential failure points). A reciever and failsafe can directly attach to the local weapon controller, but make sure that they are attacthed the right way, there's no auto-connect for them! Last of all, make sure that the local weapon controller is attached no more than 1 block away from either the turret block or missile controller. You'll know that the ai has control of a weapon when it says it is "connected to mainframe XXXX" and "controlling X# of weapons". That should be all you need though.

A little thing that i like to do is to mount the turret directly onto the weapon controller as it will control every gun on said turret no matter where it's placed.

The problem your having is that when you had a lwc controlling everything on one turret, it aims the turret based on the first weapon placed. Specifically which firing piece, laser combiner or missile controller was added first. Also make sure your lwc have a contention to the mainframe. So for turret mounted lwc you need to have a wireless receiver connected to the lwc and a wireless transmitter on the same channel on the mainframe itself.

If none of that helps you, I'd need to see the BP to say whats wrong.

managed to solve the problem, the LWC was controlling the turret, the receiver was connected to the mainframe just that the receiver was not connected to the LWC, which in turn "broke" the fail safe. having the receiver sit in the "wire" spreading out of the LWC is not sufficient, it needs to be rotated to have the base attached to the LWC block itself.

on a side note, my AI is having issues fighting the ingame designs as they all sit so low in the water, the AI keeps trying to target engine modules underwater instead of turrets and this results in the guns undershooting and making huge splashes infront of the enemy, and makes my ship easy kill as shells hitting my turrets usually cause the gun barrels to be destroyed.

I recommend target prioritisation and aim point selection. It will aim at the AI by default I believe
