EDIT: Here's a couple screenshots from one of my ships that has missiles as a primary armament. There are cannons but they're not nearly as effective.

I have two different types of missiles here and you can alter their ejection angles from their launchers and everything.
Of course, there's an overhaul of the missile system planned, which may change things. And as an alternative to using the dedicated missile building blocks, it's also possible to design and build disposable flying vehicles that perform an one-way flight to deliver a payload to a target, which is basically the same thing as a missile, and it's possible within the game to design vehicles and installations to automatically spawn these and have them fire them off at enemies.
4m missile with quad ejectors. Thruster, 2 fin, 2 fuel, Camera (random block), warhead of choice, IR Seeker, warhead set to arm very quickly. Average speed of 83-84 m/s, reaches 950m before it runs out of fuel. Effective 1km range for surface targets thanks to inertia.
I dislike bigger missiles, because faster ships can easily get out of the way.
The only big 'long range' missiles I make are torpedoes.
I have had poor luck with larger missiles when it comes to targets faster than a slug in mollases in winter.
Best I could get with missiles were about 1.5km
I have had interesting results with my own attempts at a Long Lance torpedo.
One has a theoretical range of 3,700m (regulator, it starts 'doing circles' past 1km, travels 15 m/s for 240 seconds, still had roughly 3500 fuel when it times out), and a 'shorter range' one with an etimated range of 1,100-1,200m (18-19 m/s). The first has 6 warheads, the second has 8 warheads.
Kind of pointless against many ships due to the slow speed, but anything big and slow gets to be Captain Ahab to my ship's pack of big white whales. I've 'one shot' a Water Buffalo turret from below with one of those things. although I did kind of aim down when it was close, to kill initial launch velocity, so the ballast brought the torpedo near vertical under neath it.
For the opposite of the scale. Why a single, big missile at long range?
Why not little ones at short range?
Why not a dual 2x5 system with single ejectors and 1m missiles? (Magnet and Warhead).
Basically a Hedgehog system.
Or a solid chunk of 2m launchers with no ejectors, 1 thruster, 1 fuel, 2 warhead, for dumbfire rockets. Or swap a warhead for proximty fuse for a wall of anti-air death.
Not long range, but lobbing a (non-staggered) wall of 20 mines or direct firing 30+ rockets at a nearby enemy is the next best thing to droping a nuke on an enemy.
Also handy for magic tricks.
"Abra Cadabra"
*horrendous sound of 30 rockets firing at once*
*DWG Sea Viper disappears in wall of fireballs*
"Tada!"
For the ICBM aspect, hitting stuff from space.
Orbital Dive Missile.
A missile for hitting ground/watet targets from space.
2 ejectors per launcher, 8m missile with 2 thrusters (1 set for 5+ second burn, other set for 20 second delay after initial burnout), 5 fuel, 3 fin, 3 warheads (2 frag, 1 explosive), Camera (random blocks), proximity fuse, IR Seeker. Initial thruster burrn to get it out of space so they don't slow down and drift, then some time 'falling' until the second thruster ignites, and 'dive bombs' the enemy. Not good for faster targets, but handy for bigger/slower targets.
There is something appealing about dropping missiles on a Coffin Nail from above...
If there is a missile system rebuild, I would love 2 things.
First, cruise missiles, sacrifice speed for improved range. (glide fins that reduce speed but increase fuel efficiency?)
Second, faster missiles, perhaps more expensive thrusters and fuel, at the expense of reduced maneuverability when going at higher speeds.
A secondary thing I think is needed, more torpedo stuff. Like electirc torpedoes (much more efficient and faster, but needs power to charge, and is useless outside of water), and also a way for missiles/torpedoes to sink, so big cannons with excessive Explosive ammo aren't the only option for 'subs' and persistant sunk ships that keep attacking from below
Missiles are supposed to outrun aircraft with ease. Watching aircraft in the main menu battles outrunning or keeping up with missiles just makes me shake my head.
(sleep deprivation ftw...)
Unless you send out some tenacious little AI controlled PT boat to pull enemy units into battle at longer range away from your main stuff, then try and pull stuff into play that's farter away.
Isn't the campaign map something like 40km across?
supcom? Nukes? Long range artillery? Why not both? UEF Mavor ftw. (one of the DWG airships might as well have a Mavor strapped to its front...)
I've now uploaded a missile system similar to the design I mentioned earlier to Steam Workshop [edit: now deleted due to being out-of-date]. Range is only 2125 metres rather than 2325, but it has 3 warheads rather than one, which makes it significantly more practical.

Overall missiles need tweaking, missiles IRL suppose to be fast and good catcher of aircraft, in FTD most aircraft that aint crap manage to outrun most missiles
For ICBM and other big bang stuff
Comunity on forums disagree with this stuff (I still want some big kaboom stuff to watch)
Stuff like nuclear bombs or ICBM capable of smashing entire fleets to sea bed.
I would love to see some sort of 'heavy' missiles that are almost as wide as a full block. Or even 1x2, one block is the launch system, the adjacent block is 'empty' and where the actual missile goes. Or maybe a 2x2x1 block setup that is a 'silo' for a much wider missile. Have the present ones be fast has heck, and a broader one be slower but more deadly.
Like the Tomahawk cruise missile, it won't win any speed contents, but with a payload of up to 1,000 pounds, not much is left of the target.
Stray idea. A 'negative guage' item for custom cannons, lower damage but higher rate of fire and higher muzzle velocity to maintain a good range. Make a custom auto-cannon and a special turret/cannon part that turns it into an effective CIWS...
Isn't it less the nukes wrecking stuff and more the shockwave they create?
ICBM idea, some sort of crazy missile shapped 'craft' that is made up mainly of ammo barrels, and 'dock' it to something else that flies.. Undock over target and drop it on ann enemy ship or something, and hope it doesn't so much as get spit on during its trip to the target... or before it is released.
Another random ICBM emulation idea. Several clusters of launchers tied to the same weapon group, each missile controller set with an increasing fire delay, so each cluster fires one at a time. Basically fire of clusters' of missiles that will hopefully 'stick together' and cause a lot of damage at the point of impact
Back to SC...
Can't a Mavor be slapped in the corner of the biggest maps (81km?) and 'still' basically hit most of the map?
It may not have the rate of fire, or the usefulness of wrecking groups of units/buildings in one shot... but when you want to wipe out the enemy base from the comfort of your turtle basebackward... Assuming the enemy doesn't die of old age as a massive army of engineers even tries to build the darn thing in the first place...
Barring that, Total Annihilation, spamming walking nukes and air transports... Or 'borrowing' a Core engineering kbot and working toward using their own Krogoths against them.
You should go to Forums and make suggestion about that
But prepare for people butthurting about it
TOO OP
WRECK ENTIRE GAME
ETc...
And yea here is, was my suggestion about weapons of mass destruction
It was locked because mod obviusly dont like me and my aptemts to defend my idea (and its not the first time such not nice behavior happened)
http://fromthedepthsgame.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=4159
People even created additional suggestion with pool to take my idea furthermore down
I wont forgive them this
im sorry, but not everyone will like your ideas. me included. super weapons in from the depths just dont make any sense.
