Help against the Orca's...
So I recently started a new campaigne and spent all my resources on building on awesome ship. This ship took on 2 strength 40's at the same time (With a little intervention by me and a decoy AI) and I saw a new enemy on the horizn, the Orca. Had no idea what it was, so paired it up with my ship in the designer and my ship got obliterated in under a minute... anyone have good designs against these behemoths in the workshop or just care to give me advice (preffered) Thanks in advance!

Build Shields on your ships
And use lot of rockets when attacking

PS: If you are having problem with Orca, i fear how will you stand furthermore in campain ?
i have a ship that has a bunch of shields, fires 84 laser guided missiles and is able to down a moray in one volley.. not sure if you encountered one yet, but morays... oh god. so yes, shield your ship, and get lots and lots of missiles. i had to make a ship that fired that many missiles because the moray missile defence is very good.
So cover your ship in shields, maybe make it out of metal, and have tons of missiles. that did the trick for me.

Ah, but you see, I only have the started resource zone (My next has just been claimed and being built) and my ship has no *official* AA guns, meaning anything directly above it screws it over.

I have sheilds covering most of my ship, the only problem is my laser uses 1.4k power and my sheilds go down temporarily, but even when its not, the Orca still cuts through my sheilds, what do I do then? Also, I recently did a retorfit that added 2 turrets of 6blocks 9 missles. And about half of my ship is covered in metal. I plan on adding more, but for the moment, I am broke.

remove that laser. add moare missiles. that way, you can still bring down orcas and morays and basicallly anything that crosses your path, and you still have the shields. shields are the most vital thing in your ship.

Ok, I'll go add on two giants squares to the sides of my ship. It had run out of room with all the junk I put on it xD. Whats your recommended anti-air missle? I generally do IR, but it says laser-beam riders are better for air.

well, since its on a ship, use a laser designator. many planes have heat decoys, wich makes IR quite useless. in this case its an orca, so id reccomend a 4 block launchpad, wich 1 short range thruster, 2 fuel tanks, 2 fins, target position prediction guidance thingie, frag warhead at 20 degrees, and the laser receiver. or you can replace one of the fins by another fuel tank, and maybe the targed prediction thingie by another warhead. just experiment in the vehicle designer. spawn your ship, turn its AI on, then press X and select the orca from the DWG spawn menu. then check the results. also, add many, many missiles. a moray should appear soon, and those put orcas to shame.

Alright, after adding so many missles that they reached the Orca and were STILL firing I finally killed it. Thank you all for helping! :D It is a shame how much missles are required in this game D:.

I take orcas down with gunboats and one missile boat to distract them with flares(the gunboats are too small to bother putting flares on)

yea, i was hoping you didnt need as many missiles. but you get used to it after a while, and dont worry, there are still a bunch of ships that are better finished off with cannons.
