AI Problem. Please help!
So for some reason whenever I create a ship with naval ai. It Barely works and wobbles from side to side. When I go into combat it rams into the ship backwards. Or just doesn't turn when I tell it to. It also can't go in a straight line. Weird issue I am making the AI everyone else. Does anyone know? I really like this game but this issue is really annoying. Is it something wrong with the game. Or am I doing something incorrectly

I think if it's on the smaller side the waves kind of mess with the AI so it keeps turning to get back onto the path you set for it.

Could it have to do with it being made out of wood? Or light materials. Could turning the wave size down help? So basically smaller ships controlled by AI are pretty much useless? That seems pretty strange.

Having a low center of mass will stop the ship from getting owned by waves. But the smaller you are the less mass you will have. adding on too much mass to your keel will make you sink easier if you lose blocks via damage.

It is EA so some things don't operate as they should. I do agree with you that it shouldn't sway back and forth. Having the AI allow the ship to deviate x amount of meters in either direction of the path before correcting would work. It would still go back and forth, but much less.

There could be an option for that in the Naval AI card already, not sure.

So how would I lower the center of mass?
rcyy Aug 11, 2015 @ 10:33pm
By adding weight below your current center of mass, like how you see some prebuilt ships have lead blocks hanging from the bottom of the ship. You could cut mass above your center of mass, but that will also make your ship lighter and thus susceptible to the waves.

Having ships around the size of 25Lx25W usually allow you to customize your design so you'll be able to add on that lower center of mass. I'm sure you want something smaller then that, but you'll struggle with the AI zig zagging more and more the smaller you get.

I already added something like that. It is a keel. It is just a bunch of lead blocks at the bottom. Could it be because the center of mass is too low? Or do I need more?

ive been trying to do meta at waterline and below. and light alloy above so more weight below decks. not sure how well its doing just started :-)

It's hard to tell, try adding on so much mass that you almost sink. if you still have the problem then you may just be way to small. AI isn't really necessary for really small vessels unless its a decoy.

Well this vessel isn't really that small it is 14 beams long and 8 wide. I have done that but the problem still persists.

And if I almost sink what is the point of having a ship? Could they maybe add something that fixed this in the next patch? Because that would be amazing. I want the SS. Shrek Lives to work!

have you checked to make sure its built in right direction? seens some people have similar issues and turns out when built it they built bow of ship in wrong direction. when go to load ship in... at top riht a option will apear to turn ship 90degre. but doesnt give confirmation its done it. so dont hit more then once and check your ship at a time.

I will try that. I am pretty sure I made it in the right direction though.

Hmm I think I built it to the wrong direction to the side. But I am not sure. Would flipping it by 90 degrees fix that?
dragonsphotoworks Aug 12, 2015 @ 12:10am
depends on which side it was. try one turn at a time till goes right
