Best enemy ship(s) to test new ships against in creative?
Is there a good ship or series of craft to test your ships or craft against? Like if you build a small gunboat what is the best enemy ship to test it against? How many minutes does it have to last or how well does it have to do to be worth making in your game?

Paddle gun and the flawed soul are good for small ships
i use the vanguard for small starter ships, the marauder for medium sized ships and the plunderer and the moray for the bigger ships. i also use the warden sometimes.

Thanks folks. Funny, a small boomer sub I have was defended by the Paddle Gun but destroyed the Marauder. Kind of weird...I guess each craft has a weakness.

Marauder's a push over. All fixed position short ranged weaponry, none pointing up, down, or backwards, and is slow like molasis. Paddle gun has twin turrets that can fire up and down with respectable range, turning speed, as well as some IR defenses, and missiles.

Asteroid.

Thing ate my 8 missiles, smiled at 2 1000 damage HEAP guns firing and sneezed lasers of death

...but seriously it depends on what you're after for testing.
A flock of Flying Squirrels is good for an AA test, a Barracuda for AA and anti-ship weaponry.
Paddlegun, Pirania and Moray for armor/mobility/survivability test

I just shoot marauders. Terrible for testing anything other than enjoyment :P

I Generally use the Marauder to test how fast it takes to go down. If its quick I'm happy. I never use it to see how my ship takes damage because almost every battle will be different. I wish I knew a good missle spam ship for LMB's testing though.

GT Devil's Curse :D A couple weeks ago I basically had a mini tournament between all the Godly faction designs. The devils curse took a clear victory, closely followed by several other thrustercraft.

If you can beat that, you can probably take anything in the game.

Aside from that, I like to use the OW Telemachus for very small tests (it's a small, beefy, metal ship). Or for something a big larger, you can't go wrong with a Bastion!

A lot of the battles in this game can be situational. Perhaps the enemy uses many fast aircraft, in which cases lasers or effectively guided missiles would be your best weapons (while cannons would do very little). The exact same build would perform different vs. a fleet of OW ships, with their slow, heavy metal ships.

When I design something, it has an objective. 'Kill flyers, kill subs, tanking, ect.' Then when you test, simply see how well it accomplishes this objective - and base its worth on that.

Excalibur is due to get buffed, as right now shields make it useless. For a large battleship, use the Guernsey(also SS).

The paddlegun is the king of the Deep water guard ships... So if your making an early campaign build you want to be able to beat it.... if your building something for latter on in the campaign then start looking at other factions....

It depends on what you're trying to test.

Gunboat: Paddlegun, Water Buffalo, anything smaller than those two

Destroyer: Paddlegun, larger sea ships (excluding the Plunderer)

AA/Aircraft: Moray (for airships/airship killers), Flying Squirel (everything else)

Battleship/Battlecruiser: Plunderer, Onyx Watch Castle ships (high armour and volume of fire)

maurder just to test weapons are working. Bulwark to test how well your ship handles under sustained gun fire, as well as how quickly you can take out an armoured target. The scarley dawn Fortress to see how you do against a target with shields, missiles, and lasers.

And lastly for a missile defence test, the Omega thruster craft. That thing shoots so many missiles.

molpe for anything thats meta and missile ships
