How to get started in campaign?
I am struggling right now. I have played a lot of sandbox construction games but this one is tough for some reason. :steamsad:

The basics are ,first design a cheap, and yet decent boat in the designer. Now once in campaign, you want to remove all the light armor from the fortress that is near the engine. Further remove all the repair tentacle so you get some crystals, then build a crystal farm (you need crystals to grow crystals). Next you want to rebuild the engine, as the engine on the starting fortress stinks. Lastly add several more resource gatherers.

Anyway... There are a few good videos on youtube. I would suggest watching some of the videos done by EnterElysium. You will also will also want to know how to make good engines.

What are some of the cheaper ships' names that I should spawn?

First step is change engine to efficient and powerful setup. Second step is spam resource harvesters and crystal trays. Third step is strip down your base. Fourth step is bribe DWG into not being at war with you.

There is a pretty big learning curve on this game, but its a fun learning curve. Once you think you've got something down, you learn about a new way you could improve it.

Early on, keep it simple, learn the mechanics one at a time. For example, build a boat first, tweak it until it's effective - and eventually you'll know how to make killer ships. Then move on to planes, subs, satellites, fortresses, ect.

I also think there is a slight lack of documentation since it's alpha. That means you really have to play around and figure some things out for yourself. For example, does a fuel block or a supercharger give your engine more power in that one empty space.

Just keep trying, I've learnt the mechanics of the game but haven't won a battle yet. Just remember don't get cocky or you will get blown out of the water, literally.

You can go to the designer and design a fairly expensive ship, then when first in campaign take the metal off the fortress, and upgrade the engine to be able to run about 50-60 resource gatherers. Build a couple crystal farms too. You can then press 'm', hit 'pull all', and speed up to 10x then wait until you have enough resources (usually the limiting reagent will be metal or crystal, press 'v' in the vehicle designer too see how much of each your vehicle will use). When you have enough resources, put the fortress back into play again. be sure to leave yourself a substantial buffer for ammo and repairs. then click esc, load vehicle, and it will start. when it finishes hit 'e', click starting_fortress, more options then 'scrap force' (you wont really need it, funner to build your ow in foreign lands anyway). then just go out and screw with the Depwater Guard. Be aware that they wil become stronger the closer you get to Janwall. Also, if you ever happen to see an opportnity to steal a strong vehicle like a marauder/paddlegun/pequod or something, do it. To steal a ship you just jump onto it (before it says 'too damaged'/'AI dead') and destroy the AI. Usually best to have the biggest fleet your computer can handle.

I started my campain by scrapping my fortress, building a light defense structure (swarm missiles work well for that) and building myself a copter with 8-block-killer missiles
