Advanced Cannon reload time
Can someone tell me how to speed up the reload rate of an advanced cannon?

you could add autoloaders or ammo input feeders

I already have 4 4m autoloaders covered in ammo clips and input feeders.

ok you might want to either reduce cooldown time or use smaller shells

Also make sure you have enough Gauge Coolers if you are using such large rounds. My larger cannons usually have at least 8-12 of them. There are also the hydraulic recoil things, which seem to speed up how fast the barrel can recover from recoil after each shot.

I have a 6400mm super-heavy cannon with a cyclic firerate of ~2000rpm however only enough ammo to handle under a second of continuous fire (much sad. Gonna upgrade my ammo generation)

You may ask, how the hell?! Gauge Coolers, son. Gauge Coolers. Seriously, I probably have around 200 of those things on the gun, as well as 8 autoloaders with 2 clips each. It's OP as ♥♥♥♥.

EDIT: You don't want to fire such big shells so fast however, it tends to fire ~3 per click which can be annoying

My cannon fires them in a short burst and then recharges in ~10 sec. How would I spread those shots in a longer time span.

Your cannons cooldown time exceeds the ability of your autoloaders to reload it, you could take out a few guage coolers to increase cooldown time and get a more even shot rate, or you could add more autoloaders to allow reload time to catch up to the cooldown rate.

Above a certain size of guage on the cannon achieving a steady and quick fire rate whilst keeping the cannon compact enough to actually use on anything mobile becomes quite a challenge, I've settled for a 3x3 barrelled heavy cannon on my battleship that fires 5 bursts of 9 shots before reloading since the size of the cannon required to achieve a steady firerate of 1.5 seconds/shot like the smaller cannons on my cruisers can manage would require a cannon thats simple too large to field on anything other than a fortress or structure. Considering even this compromise cannon can bisect something like a moray in a single salvo I'm not too bothered about the reload time.

While what you say is accurate, it is not the actual reason he shoots in bursts. The "burst" effect is basically the cannon firing all its bullets in a short amount of time, and then needing to reload. You can decrease the load time of autoloaders by putting clips on EVERY sider of the autoloader.

PS: You can spread out shots by setting a firing delay; press q on a gauge increase, barrel or firing piece to get the menu, play around with the firing delay option until you reload fast enough to keep up with the delay

PSS: Check out something I uploaded on the workshop "Blockade Turret" it uses advanced cannons, and you might be able to learn something from how its made ;)
