Some observations on Harpoon Missiles.
I've been toying around with cable attachments on my missiles to winch in aircraft and I wanted to share a couple things i've learned.

1. When you hit an enemy craft with a harpoon missile, your craft will be dragged by the force of the craft on the other end. In some cases, my craft ended up being pulled out of the water completely. Adding additional winches seemed to curb this. More winches attached to my system seemed to increase the force enemies were being pulled in with.

2. Cable components for the missiles only contain 200m of cable per block. So, if you're trying to harpoon targets that are greater than 200m away, you need more cable components. This is only really a problem if you're trying to hit fast moving targets since you must give up fins and other components designed to counter speed.

3. Harpoon missiles deal no damage to targets hit by them. In fact, it's really easy to damage yourself if your target is being pulled in quickly and you're cables dont release soon enough. You can adjust the cable-detach range by interacting with winches. Once your target is reeled in, your other weapon systems will have to finish it off.

Anyone with more Harpoon experience care to weigh in? There seems to be a scarcity of information on this weapon system.

Yea since barely anyone use them

WF use them = Tottaly useless in battle

Begin pulled toward enemy battleship, which shells can be insta KO for your ship, then if you manage to ram to it, you will stuck in it, and its cannons will chew you up at point blank range

Only fun i found with them was when i created experimental AFU mine that act as submarine, and use harpoons to ram to enemy aircraft, since Mine is heavy (mostly lead) it will drag the aircraft down to water

Harpoons on simple baloon drones can be fun... hoists ships out of the water. Even if it cant lift it all the way you often pull the back end out of the water keeping it stationary while you blow it up. This is also fun with air ships that use bombs.

Ive also used harpoon torps on a very heavy bottom crawling sub, it drags ships down to ocean floor before smashing them up with large drill array.

Im currently using harpoons at the business end of a ram ship to ensure a solid hit on the attack run. The ram is a set of jaws with a hefty drill array to make multiple attacks doing very high damage.

When I want to capture an enemy vehicle, I destroy the weapons and propulsion with my lasers, pull the vehicle in with my harpoons, jump over and destroy the mainframe, or hit with a bunch of emp missiles, till the mainframe is down.

This is pretty much the same craft i'm building. Submarine with mines and harpoons.

What is a WF, though?

EDIT: Oh White Flayers. I got it.

build a mine layer ship... launch mines with harpoons lol

So I need to correct some statements I made now that I've had more time to play around with hapoons.

I don't believe additional winches has any benefit any longer. Also discovered the cable drum attachment, that adds 400m to cable length meaning a single harpoon component is all that is needed.

I have to agree that they are not very practical in most encounters. You must have a ship designed around them to be at all effective.

harpoons good to drag a ship into your drills or rams.

if used on a plane and target a faster plane if hits can help you keep up i think lol

im sure other uses for them if get creative.
I'm currently working on a submarine that can hold a few drills atop of it, and have it so it will settle underneath it ( this is in regards to those really tough ships like the gunesray) so you can go deep under and drill through the entire bottom of the ship, that is if you survive the wall of shells and missiles coming at you.

blast the WF and everything they represent. I've never lost a ship to them, but i've had to pull more ships from battle for getting the front chewed off or getting flipped . . . the ramming is so fracking annoying, but i have to commend the designers . . . they made the crazy asthetic work.
