Remember to have a heartstone on the new ship while your original ship is being refitted.
You also can't make a second ship and then delete the original one. If the original one is gone, it's game over.
Also, save before you do this...
Go to vehicle designer and design a ship you have the material to afford in adventure game. Start your ship by placing the 3x3x3 prefab 'cockpit' cube that will remain unchanged as the heart of your vessel. When you have saved your design, go back to adventure and retrofit your raft. The 3x3x3 cube should remain unchanged.
If the game does destroy your cockpit during retrofit, perhaps because it's placement is very different within the ship, you can add an origin block within your 3x3x3 prefab cube. That should ensure no 'slippage'? in the blueprints.
Unfortunately if you try to build a second ship then set it to be your flagship, the game will still be over if you scrap the first ship. You must preserve the first ship so it is best to retrofit it into whatever flagship you need.
Another way to get your first ship built quick is to make it in one or more prefab blocks and connect them to your starting raft.
