From The Depths
Really hard tutorial mission
So, is there any way to beat the first tutorial mission? I've tried rigging different kinds of missiles, tried adding extra engine power, etc etc, but every time the pirates just chew my ship up like it's plywood and the missiles rarely make contact, they either just fly away or miss and hit the water

Your best bet is to just skip the tutorials and come back later. They have good intentions, but the game mechanics are updated fater than the tutorials to teach them.

Here's the best tutorial I can give you, assuming you know the basic principles of the game.

Go to the designer, and build a boat.
Make sure it can drive, float and turn.
Then, arm it.
Save the vehicle.
Press X, spawn in easy vessels, and observe the fight.
Then modify your ship as needed to do better against each new target.

Save often, and rename the save ie; MK1 MK2 MK3 so as not to overwrite older versions, in case you need to go back to an old model and start again.

Once you start to get a hang of things, THEN go play the campaign. A few days later you'll be good at the game and can go back and clear the tutorials.

Most complex $4 game ever.

Been reading up on it for days, blown away by it... Can't wait to figure it out...

Yeah tutorial 6, the mission for repairing the engine then going to the waypoints is tough. I'm also a new player and I tried like 5 times and failed each time. It estimates the time to complete the mission at 10 minutes, but it probably took me that long just to build the engine and patch the holes in the floor and after that it takes travel time to reach each waypoint so I bet it takes more like 20 minutes if you manage to succeed.

You can click on the button that says See All Tutorials instead of the button to start the next tutorial just select the next tutorial manually I think. If you do want to succeed in that tutorial I think you definitely need to start off by clicking on the resources button before it starts and moving all your resources sliders to the right so you will have plenty of materials for repairing your ship as it gets shot up. If you don't increase the resource sliders you quickly run out of metal and can't fix stuff that breaks.

well i got the game today and i pass this on 3rd try, its rly easy;

1. fix hole in ship
2. build engine with more than 1000 power to get checkbox filled
3. pass 1st waypoint and kill 3 ships, drive away from them and keep fireing(drive away to minimize their closure rate!)
4. stop( T+G) and rep ship
5. pass next waypoint kill 3 more ship
6. win

you dont need to build anything but fix the hole in the hull and build primitive engine about 1000power or more. the onboard weapons are enough. just make sure you repair ship full before you hit next waypoint with 2nd fight.

1st and 2nd time i was sunk, 3rd time i straight win it, its not too hard for tutorial i felt.

A tutorial is supposed to be something easy and straightforward that everybody succeeds at. I've tried the mission 7 or 8 times now and failed them all. If the pirate ship with the sail manages to get close enough to you then you can't seem to hit it with the missiles at all and you have no other weapons on your ship.. When I tried to sail away my paddle wheel got destroyed then I couldn't move anymore.

I think I only managed to kill all three of the first group of ships one time. Never gotten close to killing 6. Sometimes there is a group of ships that attacks me before I ever even reach the first waypoint.

I finally succeeded in the mission by clickin on Resources button before starting the mission and added 6000 of every resource except crystal. I patched the holes in the bottom of the boat and built a built the engine then I went into the prefab building category and placed one prefab 3x IR missile array on the right and one on the left of the front of the ship lying flat facing forward. On top of each of these I build a prefab 3x advanced IR missile array liying flat facing forward right on top of it, so in total I added 12 missile launchers to the ship all near the water level and facing forward.

I stood on the flat area just forward of the boat's steering wheel so I could get a good view of the front of the boat and still control its movement and guns.

Any time I detected enemy ships, I stopped going forwards and started going backwards (by pushing the J key rather than turning around), then I used the H and K keys to center the group of ships in front of me and I pushed control to fire. A whole lot of missiles flew and things were destroyed. The first three boats were all destroyed in the first volley. The last ship in the second group of ships is quite tough by comparison to the others and takes more volleys, but I didn't seem to have much difficulty with 18 missiles.

I even tried adding a seperate missile system because the missiles just wouldn't hit, but I've given up on the mission for now. I'm just going through the other tutorials and skipping it

i also had the problem of hitting them in close range, but as soon as i actively started to sail away, in order to keep them as far away as long as possible, the rockets worked quiet well.
i am not sure maybe i lucked out, but i didnt rly do anything optimal and still won, so i figured its not so terrible hard.
