A question about torpedo propellers that I feel silly about asking
Do they require fuel or do I not need fuel tanks for them. It never explains if it does in the tooltips for it.

yes, u need fuel, but not as much as a missile over the same distance. more props obviously = more speed and more fuel used. the main price you pay for the much better range is much worse speed.

Thank you for conferming that I do need fuel, and I was thinking of useing it in close quarter broadsiding so that insight on its use was helpfull.

in that case it may be helpful to know that it appears that propellers have a similar affect to an ejector, and it seems to stack. i'm not sure if this is still true, but you may get decent performance out of a good size propeller stack to get the speed and launch range, while only having enough fuel to go a few hundred meters at a good clip.

Thanks, I also figured out messing about a bit earler that getting a 1-4 ejector launcher (based on range) can make it so you only need 1 propeller (for the float effect) and no fuel at all

You'll want a fuel tank. Probably just the one. Missiles have a 60 second lifespan, which will run out far far before you run out of fuel. I strongly recommend adding a regulator.

I also recommend test-firing the torpedo design. Set up a chair on your design, sit in it, fire the torpedo manually, then press Caps Lock to view the torpedo as it travels. See how slowly it uses fuel.

The current 4 block torpedo design I use is as follows

torpedo propeller
regulator
fuel tank
fins
fins
explosive warhead
explosive warhead or fragmentation warhead
torpedo sonar or LUA reciever

If you have multiple torpedo launchers close to each other then stagger the missile launches so that they are less likely to explode each other.

but you do loose on speed because no ballast tank

I found that the second fin is important for accuracy, and I don't like the idea of giving up the second warhead. I might have to experiment with propeller-less torpedoes now, thanks for the idea!
