You can also import workshop ships as such designs to load. But you need to actually import them in the main game menu (before playing anything, look at the right-hand side under misc) before you can even "load vehicle" in the game.
Either way, it's a quite confusing usability mess as far as I'm concerned. UI should be designed as though you wanted to do anything a thousand times over and quickly so - this clearly isn't one of these.
The load vehicle in Menu isn't really designed for campaign although it was left in.
Your supposed to use vehicle spawners allowing the need for things like ship building fortresses etc... It brings more to the campaign.
i just want it do be able to destroy things
Use creative mode, spawn in a ship of your choice, then press x to spawn in enemys.
