Drive Maintainer!
How does that thing work? The GUI and tooltips don't really tell me much about it, I thought it would keep certain thrusters running for me, but how do I assign and control them?

Oh nevermind.. got it... the positive and negative input confused me for a moment

can u explain it to me?
You need a complex controller with your usual controls, you should only set up short boost (RCS) thrusters in the complex controller, something like pitch or yaw.

Then you set all your main forward drives to POSITIVE input on "PRIMARY" and then place a drive maintainer next to your complex controller. You can then set T as a positive and G as a negative in the drive maintainer.

Then T and G will gradually throttle everything that has "PRIMARY" set to positive input. Just like with every other craft, jets, boats, etc. Of course you can pick any other button, but just replicating the vanilla controls is more intuitive.

If you have an airship that is hovering in the air with downward facing jets, you can set all of those jets' positive input at "SECONDARY"
Then you add another drive maintainer to your controller, pick secondary drive mode, set U as positive and J as negative. Then you can hold down U to have the vertical jets lift you up harder and keep you in the air, or hold down J to turn them off again, sending you plummeting down again.

i tried doing this so my sub would move without me holding down uttons didnt work?
Place the drive maintainer right next to your complex controller. T green, G red, set to MAIN in the top left corner of the GUI.

Place the propellers, set all of them so that "PRIMARY" is coloured green.

That's it. Hold T and they should start working.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=305462529 i dont have the option of main in the drive mantainer and nothing happens when u press q on the complex controller i only have main in the propellers is that what you mran

this thing confused the living crap outta me when i was trying to set it up with my Sky Fortress, only to find out you can't lol, also, is it possible to configure directional controls (ailerons, Tailwings, rudders, etc.) to the drive maintainer to keep you in a constant turn or lift or something? i haven't seem to find a way to do that yet
I haven't checked. Can you enable custom controls for ailerons, rudders, wings, etc? If so, just set their green input to secondary and then configure the drive maintainer accordingly
So for example you want your rudders to either keep turning left or right. Set your rudders positive(green) input at SECONDARY, then in your drive maintainer highlight H green and K red, set it to secondary in the top left corner as well. Then your rudders should stay in the same orientation just like hydrofoils usually do.

Okay, so can I set it up so that say, my VTOL ion thrusters are a teriary dirve and I can throttle my collective up and down to maintain lift but also have them set up to RCS roll with the complex controllers H and K keys?

Actually, that's kind of annoying since I want the vertical lift to also perform as an RCS module as well as VTOL functions... I suppose I'll have to just take it as a held-key function.

Second, if I have a DM on one complex controller set for primary drive and a second DM on a second Complex controller set for secondary drive will sitting at either controller allow me to use both drives or do I need to redesign my pilot's bridge so that both controllers each have two drive maintainers?
