Resource Gathering in mutlipule sectors?
Is it possible to leave behind..say.. an oil derrick type structure in a map section in campaign mode, then go to another section, but still have the oil derrick operate? i created a resource gathering platform in creative, but idk if it will work if i leave that zone....

Just be aware that you collect resources much much slower from zones you are not in. Like .25 or something. This has nothing to do with the amount of oil drills or resource gatherers either.

My understanding is that this is to keep the player from turtling until they can afford a 500,000RP deathstar. You will get resources MUCH MUCH faster by attacking enemies. The first stronghold rewards you with about 50k worth of metal, for example.

Yeah that chunk of 50k was just enough to almost repair all the ships I used to kill it lol.
I thought you'd get 20% of what your fortress currently digs up, but yeah. No matter how many resource gatherers I plonk down, it's just ~4 metal per fort per 15 seconds or so.

Really aggravating when you have to switch back and forth between sectors just to drain all the local deposits before switching over to another mining fortress x_x

As I said above, you shouldn't really be floating around your zones for resources, but attacking ships and expanding your territory. You'll get WAY more money. Being in a zone to get resources works well if an enemy fleet is on the way and you are defending, or waiting for a big ship to get built.

I've taken our Deepwater and Cold Loch so far - the second fortress was a really pain because it is surrounded by mountians and you don't really spawn close. But my fleet has 12 balloon drones and 2 laser subs now because of all those victory resources.

are you playing on max difficulty?
I just noticed that you don't even have to build a fortress or anything to harvest resources, you just have to clear out the sector... but building and defending mining rigs ate up all my cash at first.

The default setting. My next campaign will be at max, though I'm hoping (wishing) for co-op by then

Yup I build 1 total mining rig, and I bounce it around.

Yeah that second one is a pain cause of the mountains. Was able to take out the first one with 3 missile frigates and a heavy missile cruiser. Switched to a new missile submarine for the second but discovered some weaknesses so gotta redesign now. The missiles bays are in a bad place and take a lot of damage which means i have to keep redesigning the missiles as the block number changes.

5.88 times faster mining? YES PLEASE
Do skills actually work yet? I spent ~20 points in the mining skill but the tooltips still show the regular drilling/mining quota

Mining works - so do the sky/sea captain ones. Leadership says it works, but doesnt - you can take as many ships as you want currently (thankfully)

mining only goes so far, you need points in mechanic to, because inevitably you're going to spend resources repairing, and the less you use and the faster you repair, the better off you are, i use a 43 mine 42 mechanic set up at lvl 82. my repairs are fast enough that my weapons are nearly always up and running

Interesting - I've just been buying more and more tenticles/repair bots to get higher repair speeds. I've got enough crystal, and repairbots aren't that expensive. I think my campaign laser sub has like 8 tenticles stashed inside now, to repair my balloon fleet and spawn new drones quickly. My balloon fleet also has tenticles to repair eachother :D
