Can't launch Sonobouy
Yeah I'm still tryign to learn this stuff.
Apparently if I use aircraft I need to have sonor buoys to detect and fight a submarine.
So I made a 3m long missile that has 1 fuel, 2 regulators, 2 ballast and a sonobuoy tip with an ejector module.

Problem is, I can't launch the thing.
I set it to weapon 3, it's the only weapon on that setting, and it won't fire. If I make a missile out of it, or make it a giant flare, it works no problem. But once that sonobuoy goes on (regardless of whether it's on the fornt, back or middle) it refuses to leave the launch rack.

What do I do?

Do you have a sonar buoy holder? It's in AI - Detection Equipment.

....you would think that would be something included int he description in the missile build screen...

Thanks

Next question: Now it says "there's no mainframe connection"
I put an AI on the missile controller, I put an AI next to the holder, I put a wireless reciever on the controller, and they all still say that.

What am I missing now? Do these have to be LWC controlled instead of ACB?

edit:
added in a LWC and mainframe with direct connection... still says no connection
Tried using the "backwards firing launcher" and putting the sonobuoy first... still says no connection

There are connection indicators when you are putting things down. Did you put the AI connection below the holder?

I have surrounded the sonobouy holder by 4 AI mainframes, top, bottom, front and 1 side.

It still says "not connected to AI mainframe"

you need a local weapons controller not a mainframe

LWC on the sonobouy holder?

Because I have one on the missile controller.

Put a LWC, AI and card over the missile controller and another LWC, AI and card over the sonobuoy.

Still "not connected to a mainframe"

And, naturally, the in-game tutorials and information pages explain exactly nil about any of it.

Well.. my sadistic curiosity about the game's progress has been satiated. I'm going to play a game that I can actually play (and only tear my hair out because of difficult enemies, not lack of information) now.

Well, Ima quicklytype a really long thing to help you.

So, I'm going to ask you to save your current ship, delete it, and spawn in a starter raft, then make your raft into a large platform.

IN THIS EXACT ORDER:
  1. On one spot, place an AI mainframe.
  2. On top of it, place an AI Wireless Sender (Or transmitter, can't remember what it's called).
Make sure the 'bullet point' from the AI goes into the 'Bottom Arrow' of the sender/transmitter.
  3. Do the same things with the bullet point and bottom arrow with a Sonar Bouy Holder. (Note, you can place this anywhere. Explained more later. And in pictures)
  4. Place your missile controller somewhere. Then in front of it place the missile launch pad, and a single gantry. On top or on the sides of the launch pad, place a missile ejector module.
  5. Open up your missile gui ('q' on the missile block), and set one of the missile blocks to Sonar Bouy, and the other to a regulator.
  6. You should now be able to fire it. Once. Then you will have to place more ammo, and wait around 240 seconds (The lifetime of a missile is (60 seconds + (180 x RG)) Where RG is the amount of regulators there is) for the bouy to despawn. Only when the bouy despawns will it let you fire another.

If you don't know whether or not your buoy fired, look at the buoy holder on the AI mainframe. If it is empty and just a metal frame, it fired; but if there is a large green and white gun-barrel looking piece on it, it did not fire.
  7. If you are good with this, you can either set the missile controller up with an ACB or a local weapon controller. I used a LWC. Simply place the LWC either directly beside the Missile Controller block, or one block away from it. Then place a wireless reciever on top of the LWC.
  8. It is now 11:00 and I am going to quickly upload these photos and go to bed because I am freaking tired.

So here are these.
Too lazy to copy the sidenotes to here, so just click on each pic and read what they say.

The explanation helped out a lot (I was trying to connect the holder to the missile platform. I had figured they would need to be runnign off the same system.)

Is there a reason the missile controller needs to be connected instead of just firing from an ACB like flares?

Nope no need for the LWC, I have mine set up with an ACB to fire when enemies are close.

I usually end up placing a LWC beside every single weapon of mine... It's just turned into habit lol. It isn't really needed
