From The Depths
Logistic Vehicle
When we think about FTD, we always think about the big guns, big ships, tanks, aircraft, big boom, basically anything with dakka to kill the other guy with. But we rarely think about these part of the game, maintaining, delivering supply, repair and creating new unit to be deployed.

Do you guys build supply ship, constructor drones and mobile battery charger? I find it quite nice being able to deploy drones and construct ship deep in enemy territory and then strike from there.

Mobile battery charger idea came out cause in AotE, its kinda hard to make tanks that can sustain railgun fire against certain enemy especially when it takes huge amount of energy in an attempt blow 1 hole to the other end in a single shot. I was thinking of deploying that and have it come with 360 rotating shield to protect itself, or cling close to another tank to defend it, maybe LAMS too if Im fancy about it.

There is a method I like, thats to establish chain of supply where there is supply trunk linking to each of the resource spot, but I imagine such a thing will be hard to maintain on sea.

You use to be able to make supply chains with small structures but I think it go removed

Just requires micro management. Build a Tanker like vessel. Set it to hold 100% Cargo. All collectors to hold 0%. Send it around in out of play mode on long collection paths and meet your fleet or go back to build area. Rinse wash repeat.

It got removed? hmmm... maybe the storage container is too small thus the ring that which the structure can supply people with are too small to establish that chain over great distance? I remember that is the case for one of my early supply truck, just 1 cargo container is apparently too small, they literally need to be at spitting range in order to transfer supply.

Its the fun part of managing the supply though, fresh change of pace outside of combat.

I know some of the faction in campaign likes to target isolated vehicle like these if they are not guarded by something, they sure attack orbital satellite even though some dont have the weapon to reach it. Do you send escorts out to defend them?

You used to have to actually manage your resources and logistics. There used to be fuel, ammo, and materials. You would mine materials, then you had to build processors to convert them to ammo and refineries to process fuel. And then you had to supply your craft with all 3.

They did away with everything and just turned it into materials only. It made alot of ppl mad.

Huh, I thought it still apply now even if its just the material resource, sure look like it to me. When was this change, recently? I had thought that the new resource still need to be transferred between vehicle, or at least, the vehicle need to be near resource spot to resupply.

You still need to supply materials. You no longer need to process materials or supply fuel and ammo.

Essentially you used to build supply ships, oil tankers, and oil refineries. Then eliminated everything but supply ships.

Here is an example of logistics system on land campaign :
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2547177355

And here is an example on the main hard campaign:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2547177088

Advantages:
- high mobility of goods / material
- you can build and deconstruct everywhere on the lines

Disadvantages
- initial cost of the system
- building bigger vehicles requires special construction vehicle
- initial position management

Think like this:
- Carrier pigeon with usb (big cargo ship) vs isp ( decentralized cargo)

Logistics wins wars :D
Demonstrated in examples above

I think the best option to deal with supply lines is to build literal supply pylons to send along resources to the next supply zone... ships that do the supplying are more or less temporary things for when you don't have the ability to get a pylon built there as in you are in enemy territory that you have not yet built out to. But I have yet to get into the campaign proper. only been playing adventure mode.

i usually have a bigger vessel with way to much material storage and repair tentacles so move with the front line and then i build one of my cargo planes to clean up the battle field or grab some supplies from a nearby resource point if need be

Yeah you right bout that one, though you would still need a constructor to build the pylon there in the first place. Defense structure is also important too, cause sometime the white flayers likes to send their rammer, Steel Empire likes to send their 2 squadron of gannet to hit these spots. They will go all out of their way around your main force and kill your unarmed or underpowered structure and vehicle.

I definitely make use of supply ships. I use them mostly to ferry materials from distant resource rings back to main factories using simple wood-and-RTG barges trucks and helicopters, but I have some faster and/or better armored ships are used to resupply any fleets running low.
