Best Anti Missle system?
Not sure If im supposed to use lams, anti missle missles, advance cannons, or a simple laser turret for it. Trying o find whats best to deal with things like the hornets nest.

CIWS is useless, though it does look cool. LAMS is mainly for popping CRAMS, but does ok against the small missiles like the hornets nest uses. But for killing missiles and torpedoes you'll want interceptors.

Well, they all have their pro's and con's, but I'd say:

LAMS if you got enough room for a decent laser setup,
APS if you're trying to save space,
Interceptors if you want to be even more space efficient and like missiles.

Simple weapons for anti missile defense is rather bad. I mean, it can work, but since simple lasers are limited to 500 meters, while LAMS can go up to 1000, they don't have enough room to deal enough damage.

I uploaded a ship ealier today that has a decent LAMS. Not perfect, but it can deal with the CRAMS of a Crossbones, so missiles shouldn't be a problem either.

I suggest you take a look at it, spawn in some enemies that have missiles, and decide for yourself if it's worth it.

Missile decoys. Pretty sure LAMs were nerfed a bit back, and CIWS requires alot of tuning and an detonation offset that I suspect only allows it to work at certain ranges/speeds. Neither of which will reliably take down large missiles. Best bet's likely just using missile decoys.

Well with the cluster missles being introduced they really just drain the ♥♥♥♥ outta lams. I mean my current lam setup has 300k storage and deals 14k a shot but they drain out inside of 1 min.

For me it's missile interceptors alongside CIWS to catch any stragglers if I can fit a CIWS gun.

funny enough the dual 40mm gun takes out missiles fairly decently for a simple weapon design, and when you combine them with LWC's you can make an early game troll ship that is cheap and takes down missiles as well as most DWG ships

large decoys, use the middle mouse button and you'll be able to see your ships radar and heat signature in the top right menu options.
you'll want a decoy 10x stronger than your signature for enemies with signal processor missiles, just 1.5x for those without

medium missiles tend to be long for their decoy strength.
you can also add a remote guidance to the decoy to lead the enemy missiles to their own ship. it's tricky though

large decoys and small missile interceptors

CIWS are sometimes difficult to set up, but they can double as an AA gun and theyre actually really good if you set them up right (assuming you have the space to put one on your ships), LAMS are great general purpose, Missile interceptors are great and dont take up too much space. If youre making a really big ship, just use all 3! missile interceptors and the CIWS can help you save power for the LAMS.
