So how do you get resources in campaigns?
Me and my friend started a campaign, and by the time we started going out of the tile you start out in (which didn't take long), all of the maps resource areas are already exhausted except for 1, which doesn't replenish fast enough to actually sustain a fleet of two ships.

We have two ships and can't build more, and there's no way to get more resources to progress in the campaign further? It really baffles me how a game that has been out for so many years still has issues like this.

Is there something we're missing? Or is the campaign designed to not allow you to fight anything else than the Deepwater Guard? I'd appreciate any info.

if your ships are using too many resources for your resource income to support then you have a major logistical problem at hand.
solution:
have your ships run on something more efficient (rtg, fuel engines with turbo/superchargers instead of injectors).

your ships shouldnt use much resource at all when out of play, and if they cant even sustain that then your ships need OVERHAULS.

there are about 5 resource zones that the deep water guard has in its arsenal. take them all and collect from all of them at once.

yes, youre missing the whole game if youve only attacked the DWG. i suggest attacking the onxy watch next, as they have slow, lumbering ships that are relatively weak against subs/torpedos, but do heavy damage when you get hit.

you need to think efficiency in the early campaign. small, fuel efficient, highly effective against the enemy until you can afford to fuel larger constructions.

Thanks for the response, but I don't think you get the whole picture.
All of the resource areas, and I mean all, are expended by the AI by the time we get to capturing them. I think our ships could be a little more efficient, but they really aren't that bad overall. It's just that there are no resource areas that aren't used up anywhere except for the one we captured and rely on now. Once that's gone, there's nowhere to go to get more.

The world has a fixed amount of global resources now. The resource zones are functional, but you waited too long to attack and now all the game's factions have used up all the world's resources. However, every time you kill a ship (Or lose a ship, or burn material for fuel, etc) the global pool is increased and the resource zones start producing until it's used up again.

So go fight stuff, basically, and stop waiting so long before you go on the offensive.

Ah, gotcha. I see why that happens but that's such a terrible way of implementing a game mechanic... Oh well. Thanks :)

I dunno, I kind of like it. It gives the game sort of a "dying world, factions desperately struggling for the last scraps of resources" sort of feel.

i agree. the old method had the occasional infinite reserve resource zones and a number of limited zones. the ai did not utilize resources so it essentially "cheated" resources into its pool. this method is a lot better.
