Torpedo Sonar together with APN or Target Prediction

First and for most make Missiles and Torpedos are launched based on detection if they are within the restrictions set in the LWC and Missile controller, then after launch the missile or torpedo will lock on, not based on if your missiles or torpedo can "see" the target. By default there are no restrictions so it's possible your torpedoes are not seeing the target once they are launched. This can be fixed a few ways.

1.) Equip the torpedo with a One Turn module. This will turn the torpedo in the detected direction of the enemy and allow the missile or torpedo to lock on even when fired in a direction that would initially put the target out of it's field of view.

2.) Restrict the field of fire so that the torpedoes will only fire when the target is in front of the launcher. Set the missile controller to only fire if within a 90 degree (+-45 degrees) or smaller cone of the launcher, 60 degrees (+-30 degrees) may be better as it will help ensure that the enemy is still within that cone when guidance becomes active.

i think ive got it, i didnt know you had to have a sonar on your ship for themm to work with sonar guidance, anyways do fins help underwater manuevers or is that just missiles?

The sonar on your ship is for the ship's AI to detect a target and know that it should fire torpedoes. From there the torpedo sonar takes over. Fins work on torpedoes. You can and should use more than one. Fins create a force proportional to speed. Faster speed means faster turns.

it might be something to do with your minmum broadside range, or broadside angle,if its 180 degrees it will run away, if you set minimum broadside range too high it will try to keep the enemy at long range hence the running away. if this doesnt help you feel free to ask me again

also your detection system, yeah that too
