How to place huge steam engine parts?

I've tried everything to fit the cased crank next to a gearbox and it will not, not matter what I try, connect, and it's quite frustrating! What can I do to fix this? What trick am I missing?

OH! It needs TWO gearboxes? Is that why I can't place them?

No, just one. It has to be the huge gearbox to work.
Edit: actually I am not sure why I had placed two in that screenshot o.O

I can't place the cased piston at all. It's trying to attach to the center of the block, and it creates a collision so I'm not sure wht to do :S

I can only place the steam piping, boiler, gearbox, wheels, and generators.

Are you sure your game is updated? Try verifying the files if you can't place the blocks.

Files are validated! I'll get a screenshot later, see if we can figure this out

That sounds a bit like issues most heretics are facing with it. Are you sure you're using key-based building mode, like all sensible people?

Heh, I had same issue. F3 solves it. So switch from mouse to key based building to place the parts and they snap right in.

As for heresy.. I prefer mouse as I find it faster to move around the ship for building than key. The other time I tend to switch to key is creating/placing prefabs as then the mouse speed works against me, and I really didn't mean to place that 1,000 block component THERE. :p

Ah, thank you! This is incredibly useful! And-- I just don't like key-based. Like you, I like moving around and having more control over what I do :3
