can we talk about the lightning hoods

So im playing at about the lightning hoods and all they do is run away, so my missles dont make it and shot miss, its really upseting and takes about an hour to finish the battle

Just make moderate laser cannon. Or fast agile rockets with EMP. Last ones will eat their thrusters.

Yeah, ideally, you'd make a Adv cannon with super high muzzle velocity or even a laser weapon setup.

Make a Minigun that shoots high firing High Pen Rounds, preferably at a higher MM

Yah. The easiest way to beat those laser-slingers, all speed and range as they are, is to laser them out of the sky.

Alternatively you can hide behind armor, smoke and anti-laser shields and use whatever else you like until you get some lucky hits in, but as already noted, that may take a while.

Laser, Particle accelerators (emp is my prefference, but any will do) for hitscan weapons are good.

Very high speed variable thruster kinetic missiles with lua guidance if you would use such things (I don't)

High velocity APS will also work - They have a thin outer shell, so Frag with little cones, Hollow point shells, ... will work well against them.

Or, failing all of the above, simply more dakka. If you fill the sky with bullets they're bound to fly into some of 'em.

Alot of the options listed are very expensive and some are even self destructive when things go wrong so I`m just gonna remind you to make sure to take precautions, you will definitely want laser shields or atleast lots of smoke.



Otherwise yes, you can go pretty offensive against the LH with hitscan weapons because their craft are very weak to penetration due to thin armor and reliance on engine power and laser pump lines.


If you really want to, make a small railgun turret with really large shells and a single autoloader or 2 (So the reload time is long), along with quite a few railgun chargers (So the shells are fast and pinpoint accurate) and operate it yourself. (So you can remove any threats you want) You might want to make the shells high explosive though.... incase the craft you dont like happens to have shields...

Indeed, The Lightning hoods are pretty much the glass cannon archettype.

Laser shields and smoke will block their laser weaponry, but if we're talking defenses be sure to also pack a modicum of anti-missile defenses and EMP defenses (surge protectors). Lightning hoods love their EMP missile spam.

use HVAP its cheap and murders light to medium armour just like the real world

i have a couple of lasers and a fast minigun but i was just asking if anyone else had the problem that they just keep going straight and are out of range of most guns

That is actually a really good combination since laser shields and reflect shields cannot be stacked without abusing exploits.


You might need to upgrade your minigun and pour a tiny bit more power into your lasers though.

Time/Inertia fuzed frag is indeed a great cure for almost anything, at any bore > 100mm. Good recommendation.

Variable thruster and crank it up. Add more fuel. Add a regulator.

For flying enemies, EMP
