From The Depths
Are CRAM cannons supposed to be jittery and shakey when used by AI?
Before anything else, I want to say that I'm pretty new to this game.

I decided to go and make a basic ship with a armament of a single cram turret. I noticed that when used by the AI to aim at something, whenever it aims upwards, the gun shakes quite abit. This doesn't happen when I'm taking control of the gun or if the enemy is close enough that the gun can simply fire straight at the enemy. The gun still works as I'd expect (it doesn't hit hard and it's not that accurate, especially at range), so it mostly just a minor annoyance.

I do not believe they should be shakey. It probably is just a visual glitch.

Might have something with the way I setup the gun and/or AI.

How good are the detection systems you have on your craft?

Probably not that good.

I got a 90 camera directly on top of the turret and I believe a laser range finder on the mast. I also have various other 90 cameras, pointing towards the sky as well starboard and port sides. I don't remember what the settings are for the various detection equipment and for the aiming and target priorization card.

If you dont have good detection the gun doesnt know where exactly to aim and will bounce randomly all over as it keeps reciving conflicting data as to where to aim

Huh. Is there a in-depth guide on this?

I changed a few things (mostly clicked "Auto Adjust") and the shaking FEELS less severe. I'm starting to think it may have to do with the turret or design of the ship itself.

Are you using anything other than cameras? They're great for finding where the target is based on direction. They're completely useless for getting a good range bearing though.

Your target might also he slipping into gaps that the cameras can't see. You might want to try adding a few gimbal trackers. Those actually keep tabs on where the detected target currently is, and they have their own turrets too.

Normal cameras are good for the initial detection however.

Yes, I'm using a laser range finder located on top of the mast and I believe I got a sonar under the waterline.

What’s max speed of your ship? If a ship is too fast the cannon can’t get the aim angle. Eg you wouldn’t put a cram on something traveling at 50ms because it wouldn’t be able to move the cannon to firing positions quickly enough.
Does it still happen if your ship is still?

You could change the settings to automatic detection and see if you've got the same issue.

Laser range finders, as trackers, can't do first detection, so it needs a good sonar detection of the target before it can lock on. I'm not sure whether it actually works to maintain an angular track on its own either.

Adding a camera tracker or two would probably put to rest most worries about detection. That and a radar if you want to be very sure for testing purposes.

My turret and the sides of my ships already has camera with a field of vision of 90 degrees attached.

Tried it and it seems to have reduce the shaking alot.
