Options I know of:
  • PID + thrusters.
  • Pairs of ACBs + dediblades (or thrusters, but might as well use a PID then).
  • Any mix of the above (e.g. dediblades to carry most of the weight, and PID for fine-tuning; dediblades for alt, PID for roll and pitch)

Dediblades + ACBs will generally be more wobbly, and require more blocks. On the other hand, it's colder than jets (-> lower IR-signature), and may require less engine-power.
You "can" tune ACBs and dediblades for a very wobble-free setup, but that will either reduce its ability to sustain damage, or require even more ACBs.

Best way for FtD, in my opinion, is to take one apart and see how it works.

I take it roll and pitch are staying at 0°, right?
Yaw should be easy with normal AI and jets or ions (jets probably the better idea). May need to open the V-menu of the craft, and set "jets used in air and water mode". Forward movement should be pretty much the same, though you probably need some front-facing jets, if you want to move backwards.
