How to get a hovercraft to go forwards?
i built a hovercraft (box that hovers... not much but knowing how i build im suprised it hasnt exploded yet). it hovers in place and corrects pitch and roll very well, but I cant get the thing to go forwards..
i was thinking maybe something with the pitch thrusters but ive been playing with PIDs for half an hour now...
how do you get one to go forwards/reverse?

if you ONLY want forwards, just add in soem ion or jet engines (if you use naval AI, be sure to press "v" and set them to "allow naval and land ai to use jet engines -also, make sure you disable reverse.. because naval AIs frikkin love that".

if you want forward AND reverse, then you will liekly need a complex controller with forward-facing ions (not sure if there is an ACB activation for "control input recieved to speed up/down", which is what you'd need for heliblades.)

ok thanks..
got it solved and added some YAW thrusters for why now...
thanks

if you want to make the ability to use reverse thrusters and such (under personal control, not so much AI), you will need a complex controller.

My shuttle build uses tertiary ion drives for spaceflight (up/down arrow keys, I believe), which can, when set "low" enough, switch to activate forward-facing retro-rockets (I'll post it here if you want to check out how it works).

The multiple drives (lift drives, atmospheric flight drives, orbital drives) confuses the heck out of the AI, though

so how do you get the AI to recognise reverse thrusters?
my goal is to get something that attempts to dodge incoming shots.

on a side note: Ive asked and heard the best way to get a hovercraft or airship to attack is to have it either stay a VERY long distance away or have it circle the target...
im guessing im gonna go explode my mind with more PIDs ACBs and the occasional LUA but eh...
how do you get it to circle?

I have not gotten the AI to use reverse thrust (properly), hence why I said "if you want to pilot it yourself". There may be an LUA script for it, but I'm not familiar wih LUA.

To make a craft circle, the best way I know of is to use a naval AI with a long broadside range and an angle of around 45 degrees (with reverse disabled).

I would assume you set both the distance between you and the enemy low and the time between attacks low so that it stays within the area, idk that's where I would start
