How do you equip in your left hand?

As the title ask, how do you equip something i.e., tool/weapon in your left hand slot that is open? I was thinking torch and a tool or weapon, but like most things in this game you have to figure it out yourself. Anyone know?

I don't think you can. I think it might be for later updates. I don't think the armor workbench is in the game yet. I'm thinking its for a shield. Just a thought
