-> Super tanky and sustainable Katar? Bard sub is the way, Inner Strength is not enough
-> You like burst damage? Tachi does it actually, also offers nice ultimate skills
-> You like controlling the enemy? Gunslinger with its traps combined with your Blitz is a deadly combo, both pve and pvp wise, and since Katars can be really damaging, this transfers to your pistols as well (crit dmg mostly)
Otherwise Sorcer with the Sleep Totem is equally strong!
I do not recommend duelist as a sub for this for the following reason:
The main aspect of a duelist is high DOT effects that come from Cross Slash, Purple Lightning and Deadly Wink and is only sub-burst most of the time. You should be busy enough using your earth- and windcharge raising melee attacks that you should not spend time on much more melees that dont give much of utility in the first place (lifesteal when you have self heal? not good if you ask me).
Also, what makes a main duelist strong is his envoy path with lifesteal, bursting DOT and lots of weakening effects. As a sub, you usually want to use him for the sake of ultimates at best
(Ravager is a good example with the 2nd spin ultimate) or if your melee moveset does not mind binding in another attacks (Guardian for example, also has a lifesteal and aggro ultimate)
