You're given 3 free character slots on each server (3 on Phoenix and 3 on Chimera), and you can adopt a secondary class once you reach lv 40 and have progressed somewhat far in the main quests (leveling is incredibly easy until post-60-70).
This means, you can have a total of 6 characters (excluding from extra character slots you can get in-game through playing/buying) with each different main classes and play around with them, with changable subclasses in addition after reaching lv 40.
Ranger is the best DPS class that utilizes warbows. If you max your SPD stat, the cooldowns on your attacks and abilities will be incredibly low, meaning that you can pretty much spam any attacks you want. But you really start suffering from taking a too much damage and fatal blows later on in post-lv 60 dungeons.
This game though, there isn't really an "underpowered class" since each class has their unique abilities. Some classes may suffer a bit of difficulty in some areas, while others will shine brightly in the same said area. I mainly play as guardian/bard and for me personally, while the DPS is somewhat low, my sustain is incredibly high and allows me to solo many dungeons pre-lv 65 before I had to start using additional buff items and party up with other players.
Since you're going to be downloading this game, I'll tell you this: This game can be really fun if you're playing with friends/other people alongside with you rather than playing alone. Sure, some of us likes to start off alone to get a hang of things, but at some point when you advance further into the game, it's best to find other players to buddy up with.
I say this because personally, I've find myself roaming around in boredom, doing nothing but grinding over and over again before I joined a good, active, newb-welcoming guild. So if you plan to play this game for a long time, finding some friends to play with will really enhance your experiences with this game.
Wow thanks alot for the detailed reply!
I do both PvP and PvE. I am mostly a PvPer at heart tho. I think i will be mostly solo since I only have 1 friend in game so far lol
