This game has and will always be, a ridiculous grind; whether one is paying or not. Edit: Not to hate on the game or anything; this is just the way of things in Aura Kingdom; it's not an easy road by any means.
solo pve doesn't simply exist for f2p. you actually need to be geared in order to do that.
and good gear, upgrades, enhantment cards, secret stones, star levels they aren't free.
your individual skill as a player don't matter, not even pvp. its all in gear and class choice.
A player can technically get to +20 as a f2p player, get low spec cards, and orange secret stones. The enchant cards will be few and far between, but it can be done. Even star levels can be gotten, but you'd be talking about a very long process as a f2p player; long enough that the gear will likely be outdated by the time that they have enough to upgrade. All without even getting into skills and mastery's.
So yep, paying is the only way to speed up the process and as you said, it's not cheap.
