How to get to scientist in otherworld brevis?

I tried jumping the smoke by gliding and I am way above the smoke but it still pushes me back

Is there something else I need to do before doing this quest?

If i remember right its been a long time since i played this game you can go around it on the right or left side

You can go over the hills near that area Hopefully that helps :)
