'42 East or West?
I am now in the second half of GC'41 and would like to hear your opinions on whether I should continue my grand campaign in East or West. What are the pros and cons of each choice?

Actually, you could do either one. You can start each campaign and import the same corps. That said, I would stay East.

East seems a bit easier than West. I played it at it was released: up to East 45 than West 42/43.
Thanks, guys. Going East, then.

I prefer GC42 West a bit. A long way (until the end of 1944), the scenarios are more versatile. From Ardennes Offensive onwards, the game gets very hard. The final scenario is the largest in the game.
GC42 East starts humble, but near the end (Stalingrad) the maps get huge and you will have constantly "meat grinder" scenarios until the end. I don't know if Soft Cap is still an issue, but I think it sets in very strongly in GC43 and somehow I had more issues (so, careful core management) with it than in GC West.

Prefer East, more core units to handle and have some tough scenarios to play after mid 43.

East is okay but it quickly becomes a redundant slog fest. Historically accurate yes, but still a slog fest. To me, the big advantage East has is that you get to keep all of your original units. So most of them should be highly experienced by '43.

The West campaign is much more interesting, especially tactically. Yeah you only start off with 9+ units in '42, but the unit cap increases fairly quickly. By '44 there isn't a huge difference in unit totals to East. I also think I just like trouncing around in the Italian and French countryside, as opposed to the miserable Russian steppes. :P

I opened the first scenario of both East and West. I'm currently playing though East and will return to complete West when done. I did play the first scenario of West before deciding to go with East first. I'm a slow player (my wife won't play me at chess!), so it's a long haul for me.

I went the East way and is currently working my way through '43 and enjoying it. Am currently at Oboyan which seems to be quite a challenge - at least if you want a DV :-)
