Ah, ok, I see what the deal is ...
Had no idea about the delayed reinforcements thing @ turn 8. Would've been nice to know, before sacrificing some decent units to the pyre of "Push Onward !" So now some extra meat for the grinder and (FINALLY !) some much needed Prestige points !
Kudos. Point taken. Well, now with the hindsight, future battles'll certainly be planned differently. Only ended up with standard victory on this one. Was knocking at the gates of taking that second objective in time, but just way too much bad weather, running low on artillery shells, too many enemies in the way ... etc.
It's not supposed to be easy.
Also don't be afraid to buy an infantry to stall your enemy or just use to body block as its easy to replace them.
Allied General had 1 or 2 Finnish scenario's in the Soviet series?
The whole campaign was extremely harsh, but challenges are good.
In that regard, the Soviet campaign in PzC is indeed heaps easier.
The Soviet campaign in AG opened with one scenario of the Winter War attack on the Mannerheim line. It was tough and required throwing replacements at non core units and feeding hordes of conscript infantry into the meatgrinder to destroy the Finns entrenchment levels and run their artillery out of ammo to enable your KV-1's to break through supported by an artillery barrage.
After quite a few tries I got it down to achieving a minor victory slightly more than half the time on the default difficulty settings, never did manage a major victory though.
US Corps is utterly unbalanced and includes ridiculous scenarios which mostly include elite Panzer groups which outnumber you and with ample air support rolling up your armies. Forget fighting Tigers with your tanks.
I found US Corps 42 and 43 not that bad (on Colonel) but harder than the, admittedly easy, British in Allied Corps. 44/45 is another matter. I ran out of prestige at Sainkt Vith having to patch up P47's and M4's. No prestige in the bank meant Bastogne was impossible.
OP i believe the way i got major vic for this scenario was close to the following.
east
2 eng, 1 regular, 1 arty. once you get rid of the first bunker and arty, you keep an inf foreward to spot, and you counter battery their artillery. if the inf gets low in str, then rotate him out. do this until the arty are dead.
everything else went north.
once comrade stalin sends help, send 2 inf right to use as fodder, the rest should be able to take on what should be a near abbandoned city. (once you break through the north they start pulling guys out of position)
