It happend to me though, that I lost the physical copy and had to repurchase the item again, because I lost it. So having it on steam is a + for me. I believe they have a policy that allows mutual availability from their site and steam anyway.
The funny thing is I made a similar post to HoI3 and nobody replied. I feel nobody knows of it...
Strategic Command is a great game. I just completed my 2nd play through and almost never complete games these days!
I recommend buying from Matrix and not Steam.
1. You get a free Steam key for every game that is available on Steam too.
2. If you lose the downloaded files, you have registered the serial number and you can download them again anytime.
I have not bought SC, but looks like a good game to me. But don't expect it to be a sim, it's more like PzC or like the old Matrix game Commander Europe At War. Some online reviews said they feel disappointment that it's not a proper sim, but i think they got things wrong, i think it's very good if you like this style of TBS gaming. And it looks (much) better (graphics and gameplay) than the older SC games (published by a different company i think).
I would say this is IMHO the best middle weight grand strategy WW2 game. Much more playable , and realistic that HOI, and more involved than Wastelands Interactive "Strategic War In Europe.
The game is very playable yet offers enough historical flavors. Still I had many issues with the initial release. Since then the game received 3 significant patches, though I haven't had enough time to play the game.
From the changelogs I can see the game corrected many bugs and glitches, made significant improvement in gameplay, UI and historical "accuracy".
Still once you are familiar with the game, the AI is not that strong for a powerplayer (though you can get the opposite opinion when you are new and learning the game).
Overall pretty good for me but it lacks that little excitment making me wanting to play it more often.
My only issue is that there are no video options. The game was clearly built for a 1080p monitor (I have 1440p monitor). Higher resolutions make the units and text too small. The only work around is to actually change the resolution of your monitor before you play which is a pain. Hopefully they will fix the scale or put in video options to change the resolution in game.
