Finding retired characters' items?
I've completed the game (liberating the strongholds), and am well into a second Drift now. I've already retired many characters in both my previous game, and my current one, but I have yet to find a single one of the items I've 'named', in either game, and I'm wondering why?

I don't have any steam friends that have this game, so I've turned off the steam sharing option. Is that why I haven't found any of my own custom items, either?

Also, the majority of the items I chose to customise were self-charging items, or otherwise rare. Is that the reason I haven't found any of them? if I chose to name more commonplace items, would I have a better chance of finding them?

I don't know if disabling steam sharing stops you from getting your characters' items, but I'm pretty sure that it generates items as normal, just renames items to the names of characters' items. If that uh, makes sense, hehe; I feel like I didn't word that very well.

So if I named a Self-Charging Key Cloner, then next time a Self-Charging Key Cloner generates it might have my custom name? Which means I might have more luck finding my named items if they were common types. It would explain why I haven't seen any of my named items.

I was under the impression that nameing an item gave you a better chance of finding it again, and so I named mostly self-charging items. No wonder I haven't seen any of them again, since Self-Charging items are so rare to begin with, nevermind finding the exact same type of item again. That's a bit of a disapointment.

I wish there was a way to make rare items like Self Charging equipment a little easier to find.
Yep, that's the case, I'm pretty sure.
Also, I gotta agree with you on the item chance thing; love the idea of manipulating the item tables.
The item retiring system isn't explained very well. I haven't actually seen this officially explained, but it seems to be the case that retiring items doesn't affect the chances of finding that item again. The quickest way of getting self-charging items is by buying mystery crates, if that helps you at all.

Buying them, as opposed to looting the crates on ships? Because the mystery crates in the shop are kinda...expensive, whereas just by doing looting random ships I find flying around and the ones I am on during missions, gets me a lot more crates (for free!) than I would get just buying them.

PS. I just hit the jackpot - found a Medium Capacity Self-Charging Stealth Shield, of all things, not to mention several slipstreams, including one rechargeable one. I am officially going stealh mode with this character!
Yeah, in my experience the purchased crates have a much higher chance of having self-charging items, like 1/5 or higher.
