Naming an item when you retire doesn't make it easier to find. For instance, say you find a self-charging, high capacity, extreme range sidewinder teleporter. Awesome! If you choose this item to name when you retire, it DOES NOT mean that now you have an added chance to find your named sidewinder in loot crates.
What it DOES mean, is that next time the game decides to spawn a self-charging, high capacity, extreme range sidewinder teleporter in a loot crate (you feeling lucky?), it MIGHT just happen to be the one you (or your steam friend) named. Doesn't sound so likely that you will ever see it again, does it? (I know, this seems dumb to me too. I hope the devs change it someday.)
Therefore, to get this achievement, try to name more common items instead. That gives you a better chance of finding them again.
