If you're having a technical problem, read this!
Hi! We'll use this post for any known problems and workarounds.

If you're having a problem that isn't here, or the solution here doesn't work for you, could you fill in this form to tell us about it? Bug Report Form[docs.google.com]

That helps us fix things faster, having all the info in one place.

Thanks!

Problem: Graphical problems like missing fonts, lines or triangles across the screen, or just a blank screen
Solution: We've seen this on PCs with Intel graphics that don't have the latest drivers.
Try updating the drivers for your Intel graphics card: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/
Or if you're using a laptop with multiple GPUs, switching to your nVidia or AMD GPU should fix it.

Problem: Game won't launch, or the solution above didn't fix graphical problems
Solution: We have a new beta branch we think might help - right click Heat Signature in your Steam library, choose Properties > Betas and use the drop-down list to choose the compatibility-test beta. It should download right away, but if it doesn't you can restart Steam.

We'd love to know whether this works for you or not, so either way if you could fill in the bug form that would be great - mention you're on that beta branch, and include your hardware specs and OS version. Thanks!

Problem: Consistent stuttering or slowdown while playing, especially if your hardware is well above the listed requirements.
Solution 1: Try disconnecting any gamepads or joysticks, or wireless gamepad receivers. Some players have reported that this fixes stuttering for them
Solution 2: Adjust the SleepMargin.
- Right click Heat Signature in your Steam library, choose Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files.
- Find the "options.ini" file and right click > Edit.
- Find the line "SleepMargin=1" and change the number to 5, 10, or 15. The correct number may depend on your particular system or what other processes you have running, but generally higher numbers will increase CPU usage.

If either of these works, it'd be helpful if you could tell us via the bug reporting form above! Thanks.

Something is causing the game performance to suddenly drastically degrade. It has happened a few times and forces me to restart the game to get decent performance back.

Ran into some bugs.

At one point the game claimed I killed someone during a bloodless mission after I threw a wrench at a guy who clearly got knocked out, not killed.

If I leave a knocked out person in the airlock and take off with the pod, the body/person disappears when I redock. It will reappear on the ship if I take off and redock again.

No process pops up, no crash message, nothing.

I've got zero audio. I keep rebooting the game, but no fix.

ATTENTION EVERYONE! I solved the graphical problems by following the instructions described by skywolve. I will link it here again in case anyone missed it http://www.techadvisor.co.uk/how-to/pc-components/how-set-default-graphics-card-3612668/

By now, I've restarted a few times, both Steam and the PC, and still nothing, even after yesterdays patch. Also, no updates on my bug report. Not sure what else I could do, at this point.
Anybody know of a way to "watch" a program as it crashes, to see whats going on? This kind of thing has been caused by missing things like a DirectX version in the past, and seeing when the game fails might narrow it down.

Wish we didn't both have this problem, but at least someone else does because people in these forums apparently have nothing better to do than say my problem has no merit and just brag that theirs is working. I don't know why everyone's so deadset on ignoring the game's clear issues on launch. For a 300mb game it sure does mess up horribly for some people.

Game shows nothing in fullscreen, windowed is fine though

We've uploaded a new compatibility-test beta that may help with some of the problems launching the game. This version uses a more compatible rendering mode but may reduce performance, so it's only recommended for players who are having trouble running the game.

You can access it by right-clicking Heat Signature in your library, selecting Properties, and the selecting the Betas tab. Choose compatibilty-test from the drop down and steam should download the beta. You may need to restart steam in order to see the new beta.

This version will always start in windowed mode, but you can switch to fullscreen from the options menu.

If you do try this version, it would be useful for us to know whether or not it solved your problem and a brief description of the problem you were seeing and the hardware you're running.

Well, tried the new beta, and while steam now pops up it's launching dialog for a split second, the game never actually opens. Crashes with the same windows error.
To Clarify: the game itself hasn't ever actually opened. The most it gets to is the .exe showing in the task manager, but I don't even get a splash screen, or a window appearing.
Works fine on my Tablet (other than the controls not working well with a stylus), so it's narrowed down to my computer somehow.
Which... doesn't help much, huh.

Same as Lordmick I think. Steam launcher pops up for a fraction of a second and it all crashes silently after about 8 seconds. Here's a gif of 2 successive launches: https://i.imgur.com/6BZO5fU.gifv

And here's Speccy showing my machine: https://i.imgur.com/cTGckJm.png

The beta fixed it, I had the graphical errors making the game unplayable. all i have to say is thanks

I just tried the beta/compatibility test, upgraded my Nvidia drivers, and still having the pausing/hanging issue. Feels like someone is pausing/unpausing the game repeatedly.

I did however find a solution for me. I have a USB 3.0 Hub w/ a HOTAS/Throttle setup I leave plugged in, never given me a problem with other games, but while it is plugged in Heat Signature will continue to stall/pause repeatedly. Once I unplugged the USB 3.0 HUB it was no longer an issue and the game seems to run smoother now.

I have the same issue LordMick has.
