Sound Stages
I don't think there will be an option to upgrade lower level sound stages and that doesn't necessarily bother me. Hopefully we get a demolish option, but I can see that also not being implemented. If that is the case, so as to reduce taking up valuable land, is it smart to not build any sound stages at level one? Another question, if you film exclusively on location (at least in the early stages, until you research the second sound stage) is there a need to build a sound stage on the map?

You'll definitely have the possibility to demolish buildings in the final version of the game.

As for the second question. Filming on location has a different cost (it's more expensive, if memory serves me right). But most importantly directors (or cinematographers, I frankly don't remember) have separate skills for shooting on locations and shooting on soundstages.
In other words: the same cinematographer can be phenomenal when shooting on soundstages but terrible when shooting on location

right on, thanks for replying. You're right about the specifics of filming on location vs. on a sound stage and how a directors skills affect those.

As for my second question, any idea if we decide not to shoot any movies on a sound stage, is there a need to build one?

Well, it's worth noting that shooting on location takes a lot longer, so there is a "cost" in that sense as everyone involved is unavailable longer, forcing higher costs in hiring new stars/directors/etc
