Loyalty and happiness
What are the efects of having low or high loyalty or happiness?
Does it affect the final product?

Happiness does. High happiness = higher rated movies.
Zero happiness can result in suicide. Use gifts to help prevent this.

Loyalty doesn't really play a part in the demo, due to the short time frame, and most of your studio staff will still be in contract by the end of the demo.

This will obviously change when early access releases

However, higher loyalty does make hiring a bit cheaper, as there is low loyalty penalty when hiring new staff.

Happiness, as Greifental said, makes your movie quality better which equates to higher movie score

It's possible that loyalty and happiness affect event popups, though.

Yes for the visit of the journalist you need an actress with high loyalty for a good outcome. And for the petition of the mayor two or three actors (m/f) with high happiness.

The Journalist event does need a actress with over 50 Loyalty. But you do start with one as part of your staff, anyone can complete the event without having to hire a new actress :)

The first time the journalist event came up I didn't know I had to click on the widget on the left and actually select an actress. That's just one of many UI issues small and big that I currently have.
I made all my staff over 90% happiness and it resulted in a 99 / 90 points movie.
But it didn't sell good, i got like 1 million in revenue, while other movies with lower scores made twice the money.

I used a lot of money on marketing soo i don't really undestand.

Any reason?
Did you rent out enough cinemas?

Seems to be the case.

1,000 cinemas you could fill but didn't rent will always hurt you more than 1,000 cinemas you rented but couldn't fill.

I maxed out my own cinemas and rented about 4000 cinemas in each slot.

I tried copying the same marketing the first movie used with that movie but it floped.
At the end of the distribution period were all cinemas filled? Were there "100 %" shown in the window or another percentage? If there are "100 %" you could have rented more. Normally a 9 / 9 film with full marketing should easily fill 8000 or 10000 rented cinemas. Maybe even more when released on a holiday.

Marketing works best when started at least 5 weeks before the film starts.

Also the first, tutorial movie's numbers seem to be scripted. So it isn't a very good example for the right distribution.
And it's probably important not to release a movie in the same genre as movies from the other studios. Check the calendar. If you see the same icons, just postpone the movie by a few weeks, that doesn't hurt.
I would assume low loyalty will mean the person will jump ship to an opposing studio at some point...

Check whether there are other high rate movies
In the previous demo, our opponents can only make bad movies, so a rate 8 film is good enough. But now our opponents can make 9.9/9.9 movies, and 9.0/9.0 movies very easily, your movie is not enough to beat them. You have to avoid their first 4 or 2 weeks of other companies' movie
