BTW thanks to Frank River I have gotten way better on the start and setting up your first movies.
Week 1: should be at least 10000. I even got away with 12000.
Week 2: Same go for 10000 or whatever you set for week 1.
Week 3: Now the trick. Your attendance might change week 3. So risk it and go 10k again. or lower the amount? I will usually take the risk and do 10k again. Matters on the movie.
Week 4: Most likely a 20-40% drop has happened. So 8k or maybe 6k. Again your gambling on your movie. Is it good enough to crush for 4 weeks ?
Next you are given a chance to extend to Week 5,6,7,8. Make sure to adjust your independent movie showings. Usually I go for 4-5k at the most. Matters again on the drop you saw in week 1,2,3,4. If it already dropped 50% in the first 4 weeks then you know that 5k is risky and maybe 4k independent showings is fine.
Just make sure week 7,8 are real low or zero out. Chances are the movie will sell well for 6 weeks and really die out week 7 and 8.
Hope that helps

Here is a breakdown on what I do at the start of the game for the first 3 movies.
--- First movie you can extend twice. Run this movie for 12 weeks altogether and get around 2.2 mil
--- Build everything
--- Marketing and Outreach is ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT BUILDINGS EARLY ON. Because after your 3 movies you need this building to do the marketing it holds your hand for in the first 3 movies.
--- After Marketing and Outreach rush Theater Management. This building allows you to buy those independent movie theaters. Now back to the movies ....
--- movie #2. My second movie was Rotten Fates. Yes the guy trying to sell his script. BUY IT! This movie I was able to run for 12 weeks somehow and made almost 4 mil. This movie ended in DEC 1929.
--- movie #3. Was a movie rated around 5-6. Wasn't great but with the week settings posted above I was able to make 2.1 mil over 8 weeks. This movie finished around April in 1930.
After those 3 movies you should have Marketing and Outreach done making you ready for your 4th movie.
FORGOT TO ADD THIS!!!! (EDITED IN)

When you are picking a marketing firm to advertise your movie which one do you pick? ANSWER - ALL OF THEM. Maybe you could skip one or two of them but easiest way to play and make tons of money is to pick everyone of them. Should cost you around 720k each movie you market. So make sure you have that money around.
I was also hampered by doing theatre distribution too late so i saw some of it coming, but i guess turning down the KKK really killed me that much huh?
And if you followed the correct marketing on your first 3 movies you have more then enough cash. If I remember correct, in 1932 i had 10 million. I used 8 million to buy every movie theater. Now i'm in 1937 with 140 million.
Is it locked up where you can't click out of it? There is a bug I have seen a few times where that happens. Only fix is reloading the last save. Puts you a month or two back at worst.
Have a film gotta release within a year and should of been a two month shoot, not one day of it shot within 2 month of what was meant too be a 29 day shoot, zero reason given, saved and closed game, it started moving but stops before the day ends.
There any fix for this?
If it was locked open a reload fixes the problem. Sounds like the movie just sits there while everything else is working. How about an injury to an actor? What does the date icon say ....just stuck on the same number ?
Other suggestions and hints I can offer are (played DEMO for about 130 hours and this EA for about 50 active hours so far), in no particular order of priority:
1) Always save and check if there are better and/or way cheaper staff in the very beginning especially involving head of departments (this can save you a lot of money from the very start) ofc if you are in a great starting position load to not lose people (which can happen btw, if you fire someone they CAN disappear entirely) or their happiness/loyal stats
2) Don't over-invest into many security guards since you cannot fire/dismiss them (I believe this is a bug that will be fixed in the near future) and they can leech your money silently
3) Don't over-invest into buying new theaters in the first 4 years which is also connected to the
4) Avoid massively changing and/or spending too much money on high level staff like directors, cinematographers, etc. by signing them on long term contracts or at all "on time" -- exploit much cheaper option "per movie" since you are not gonna make a lot of movies anyways per year
5) Always use 100% Asian general staff until you get a prompt for side mission or you get to the point of the game where racism becomes an issue, as far as I've seen so far only "racist personalities" will lose their happiness slightly faster if you have non-white composition and that's the only downside
6) In the beginning always build with only 50% durability, this not only saves A LOT of money but also saves a lot of time you can use to fire up everything and start earning; by the time you get to year 4 or 5 then you can squeeze a renovation here and there when particular building is not being used (for example you just finished the pre-production of a movie, renovate it) -- I will highly suggest not to renovate before it runs down to 32%
7) In big events (like from the Mayor and stuff) always choose an option that gives you most time because, again, there is 0 negative side to this and you won't be getting more or better awards for choosing the riskier option (unless ofc both options give more time then choose one that you can more easily achieve); another big thing to know is that you can finish multiple special events at once for example you can combine Corrupted Official and Alcohol ones and finish them both with a single movie
8) Be sure to make "small movies" in between the big titles and those "magic scenarios" like Rotten Fates, Sicilian Tiger etc.; don't be afraid to make a low income movies because this can help a lot with leveling up not only your scriptwriters but maybe most importantly your post-production crew who is heavily behind everyone else
9) Maximize your scriptwriters effectiveness with exploiting the story workshop spam, you can use the min. amount of story elements to speed up the process of them writing scripts but still get enough exp points per script made; later on (I would personally suggest with everyone who is 3+ stars) do 1 new script then 2-3 new story element find then rinse and repeat
10) Sometimes firing and re-acquiring the same members that can be signed right away (without negotiations) can lower their wages, so do that once a year -- people like composers, editors and scriptwriters; AGAIN be aware that people can disappear (probably a bug) from the list so be sure to save before you do this just in case
11) Use BEATING, yes beating, against the important staff from other studios that you have no intention to ever try to get or that have enormously long contracts; even if you fail and lose the opportunity to cooperate with them you can continue to try beating them until you make it (which renders them completely unavailable for some time ~3 months) but this is also a decent constant exp gain over time for your security members; another way of const. leveling up your guards is by doing surveillance on the lowest skilled crew on the market (since you are not gonna ever want to use them and you don't care if they stop cooperating with you); beating is also very effective against highly skilled free agents who you want to bring by "motivating" them to join you since it lowers the contract requirements extraordinarily but for this you sometimes need to save-scum a bit because of a relative low success % and RNG...
12) Tricks are very effective (dirty and regular), you can use them to improve your popularity and attendance all the time
13) Use first 3 movies in the smartest/best way possible, since they are free advertised, don't rush with trash movies in the very start, do at least 5+ quality ones
14) Keep an eye on having the happy staff that works on the set for the duration of "production" segment, ONLY THAT can affect the quality of the movie significantly -- for this is best to massively rely on commodities like watches, cigars, etc.
15) You can start signing people on long term deals/contracts once you get enough of commodities and services to save money by offering them those and not paying too much of "balance cash" that you can, for example, invest into making more commodities or like buying a script, using script doctors and whatnot
16) Don't ever use anything that gives you IP (influence points) for REP (reputation); it's just simply not worth it since you can get gigantic boost of IPs from one of the Mayor's actions for a pretty cheap price
17) Having a police chief as a "friend" is A MUST. Always complete that mission and here is why... You can literally get into state where you are never raided by using the raid protection over and over and over again for a very small price of occasional impact on your reputation -- Raid Protection costs 5 BPs and Cinema Raids gives you 30 BPs for 40 Rep (or was it 30 Rep?) this means you can do or have whatever the hell you want like illegal gifts for example :)
All in all, just have fun... Experiment and try out different tactics and approaches it will eventually come into place, or won't but you'll have a ton of fun just playing thru the game. It's not about "finishing" it really, it's an awesome game as it is. However if you want to experience it fully and see everything that it has to offer then following some of the suggestions mentioned above could get you there. Enjoy! :)
When I denied hertime off and told her I needed an actress now, she committed suicide before I could use her in a movie, two consecutive playthroughs. When I let her take the time she ended up being a three-star actress.
Any answers would be grand. thanks in advance
