While I also loved "The Movies" like a lot of folks, this game is VERY different in execution, and I'm looking forward to having the free time to play the Early Access.
Outside of this, I have a good feeling I know I will enjoy this one because the artwork and such is really well done, it's just a shame a technical limitation like this holds my opinion back or from really diving in and playing it honestly lol.
Its 2025 but it's early access. Don't be an idiot. You can complain if by the time the game is released to 1.0 widescreen support is still missing.
Some may say , well this is an Indie game maybe it shouldn't have it, I disagree to that statement too, look at Cyberpunk Flashpoint (look it up on Steam and support them their great 2 man dev crew!) it's an indie game currently in Early Access too almost coming out of it from the Trese Brothers (full release in May I believe) and had 3440x1440 Widescreen support since the beginning of early access which started last year for them, so I see no reason why Hollywood Animal couldn't have supported this as well from the beginning.
Crusader Kings 3 is another great example, they have Widescreen support for everything in their game, but if you have the Royal Court DLC, the courts themselves are not supported in Widescreen so you'll see Black Bars there, but that's the only place you'll see that, thus again it's a work around no biggie, it stinks , but doesn't take away from the game itself since the majority of the game is supported in the proper widescreen format.
Which brings me back to Hollywood Animal, even if it's just Gameplay that's supported with proper Widescreen, meaning we'll see our studio in proper Widescreen format (the events and artwork can all still go in the middle like it has, when it pops up), and the Intro screen still honestly stays the way it is and the way you get little artwork when you start to develop a movie and such, so for those type of scenes we'll still see Black Bars on the Side for them. If that's the compromise then I'm perfectly happy with that (Ideally I would like it fully supported for all screens, but I know how it could be a challenge to stretch art especially if you built the art to look a certain way at a certain resolution), since the meet of the game is really during gameplay when you're looking at your studio making and building stuff, I can live with that really.
Those who just can't believe this is a complaint honestly just don't play at this resolution, and if you do and can stomach it, I give you way more power to you of course. This game has such great artwork and such for it to be technically limited to see "black bars" on the side when your playing the whole entire time, it's just not immersive at all.
Anyhow, I do hope it's added in time, since once full release happens it will be way to late for it to be added. Honestly I've spent way worse on games in the past, since this was only 20 bucks, I'm not returning this it's staying in my library, so they got my money already, but imagine the people who have said their holding out until this is added? (not all will post on the forum stating their waiting, they just read and simply wait it out, heh) So no need to limit a certain playerbase for no reason, just support it, and you'll get more money from everyone in the end too.
Hell, if you have too, do the Hollywood Animal style here, take 1 or 2 guys and lock em in a room and say "make Widescreen work" and bam in a Month they'll have it done hopefully, heh ;). Don't forget to give them food and water though please!
The game is great.
Don't be an idiot and leave a bad review because of this.
Once widescreen support is added, I can 100% see myself changing my review to positive as I will finally be able to play more the 2 hours then because quite frankly I don't like leaving negative reviews (I never have actually, lol)... I think back to Star Trek Infinite for those who are familiar with that game. I left a positive review at release cause I honestly assumed it would be the usual PDX supported type of games with billions of DLC to follow even if it wasn't the main PDX team doing it, but a dev team called Nimble Giant and it showed potential while rough around certain edges... Little did I know that 3 months later they would abandon development of that game since PDX couldn't negotiate an extension to the the Star Trek license.. Meaning they knew from the get go when the game was released in October, they only had 3 months to go before a potential renewal needed to happen with the license. After it got abandon I could have done what many probably did and change my review from Positive to Negative, but nope I didn't do that, I left it as is and called it day.
So for now my review will stand as is (negative review) until widescreen support is added. It's funny to see negative reviews for the plethora of bugs people have said they have had (though when I played for 2 hours I didn't really encounter anything, but I also didn't get that far), that I find a little weird because this is what Early Access is for to knock out those kind of things. But what I'm concerned about is a honest to god Technical limitation currently in the game, not a bug and who knows if it will ever be added, so I'm just not going to give the benefit of the doubt and change my review to a positive review thinking, "Hey, it's cool they'll work on it, it will be there by release.." when perhaps it may never be done at all. Again that kind of brings me back to what I talked about in regards to Star Trek Infinite.
