Training rewards Help

I was doing some training rewards, but I have no idea if they have to be done while you're running through the areas, or if they also count if you do them in the training room? It's annoying to do runbacks for certain enemy types and then have to repeat them if you fail.

It only works in missions, you can review what each mission monsters have when you go into the codex and select mission only, it will highlight the ones available.
