so I grabbed a friend. told them nothing other than boss 3 is trashing people on the forums. watched him play it over discord for about 4.5 hours. I gave him zero direction or advice because I wanted the file to be as close to an average casual experience as possible.
unfortunately for me he opened up the khazan memories tab to see what it was and invested vengeance points into damage. I didn't say anything at all about it. he saw there was a menu option he never picked, picked it to see what it was, immediately noticed stat buffs there and invested.
should the game be more direct telling you where they are? probably yes.
is it hidden and outside the expectation for players to find it? no
people don't explore the menus, skip cutscenes and dialog, close tutorials the second they pop up and don't consult the encyclopedia for stuff. its fine if you are trying to streamline your playthrough but you can't be upset that you missed something when you do that.
but yes I largely beleive this is a big part in why people think things are too tanky, but those people refuse to listen to tips, reason, or proof of opposing viewpoints so..
I don't see how skipping a log book, that's usually meant for lore and story items, means people are also skipping everything else in the game. I watch the cutscenes, listen to the dialogue, read the tutorials that pop up, and go in the encyclopedia when I need to understand what status effect i'm debuffed with, etc. Your one anecdote doesn't dictate the average experience; just one of many. If I'm paying attention to the story as I'm playing, then I have little to no use going back and reread memories that I just experienced. Because of that, I missed out on a separate upgrade system from the one that they introduce you to. Am I mad about it? No. It made the game up to Hismar a bit more challenging for me, but didn't make the bosses feel impossible. But yeah, people didn't refuse to listen to tips, reason, or proof of opposing view points, people just didn't expect there to be an upgrade stat in a log book.
you are directly referencing the generalized part of my response and applying it solely to this one mechanic and solely to yourself. why?
You gave an example that your friend instantly found it and invested into it. Then, you continued to say 'people', referring to the OP, myself, and others, as if we're speed running through the game not caring about anything except combat. I shared my experience, one of many different ones, to show why what you're inferring is false.
people refers to people who fit the descriptor. if you do not fit the descriptor then you are not part of that group are you? the only part that was targeted to you in particular was this bit
the rest was aimed at people who post in the board and regularly make topics and they themselves make clear they do any of the following examples and then don't listen to people who correct their opinions that originate from incomplete or assumed information.
I have to say he "found" it because anything he found is something he found and I did not influence. turns out if you are by yourself and you discover something, you have found it. just like you found this topic and found my post. i'm not sure what this point you think you have found about the word "found" happens to be.
If only he knew that was what you were trying to convey, instead of trying to bash people for not knowing it was a thing early in the game. But anyway, thanks for making people more aware of it.
you literally have to "find" everything in the game unless someone points it out to you. just like everything and anything anywhere. find is not a targeted term to imply something must be hidden. i'm not sure why we can't argue the points being made rather than using the english language and imaginary subtext provided to an extremely common word to create a semantic sidequest for the conversation.
