are there not chaos stat boosing accessories and sets in the game?
maluca fight feels so brutal without chaos res, fought him once and immediately stopped trying for the second time because of it, mine is basically 80, looked at my inventory to find some items with the chaos res, but none of the items i have give chaos res, is this just one of those fights where you gotta accept the chaos gimmick and play around it?

There are accessories and sets that have chaos resistance.
You should also have plenty of chaos removal potions and also chaos resistance elixir

and if you don't have enough of the consumables or you run out, you can craft them at the blacksmith.

these can come in handy if you need to patch yourself up from chaos affliction during the fight after making a couple mistakes, but the primary way to deal with it is to learn what applies it, and then figure out how to not get hit by those things.

After dismantling most of the stuff you don't need you should have a lot of materials to craft a whole bunch of anti status potions.
To answer your question, yes, but they mostly come AFTER the Maluca fight unfortunately

The Chaos effect is really anoying but you can mostly avoid it if you dodge instead of block the 2 specific comboes that put that ♥♥♥♥ on you. I know this is the hard way, but if you don't have any item or consumable is the way to go.
As Optinooby said, the set comes way later. I will say, after fighting him 20+ times to farm my armor set, it does become clear that his large chaos move (his Virgil blink katana attack) is pretty easy to brink guard. If you execute it when he turns all chaos color and flashes, you should knock him out of it every time, taking no chaos damage and staggering him. None of his other moves should apply a significant amount.

Use fire bombs etc when he hits his katana phase and just keep dodging his dash. That’s how I did it. Otherwise you just get ragged on with the chaos.

the katana dashes are all very easy brink guard timings that result in a stagger on the 3rd that can be punished.

You can farm phantoms in a spot where there are few near blade nexus. Phantoms are best source of jewelry in the game so you can farm them long enough to get decent necklace or ring for some Chaos resistance. Getting both pieces with Chaos resistance would help a lot with Chaos status buildup. You can also use Chaos resistance potion to push your resistance higher but I would only use it once you have decent handle on the first phase. You can buy Chaos cleansing potions from the bard as well.

Maluca's katana dash is his most dangerous and difficult to counter move as it does not have any natural animation you can observer. It is a move you need to simply memorize the timing to get the brink guard on it. The attack is absolutely not "very easy" to defend against as you simply need to get the feeling on the timing first before you can try to brink guard it. This is not even about fast reflexes, that some people do not have, it is just about knowing the timing when to press the guard button. This only comes from experience, therefore, dying to him repeatedly. This process is made harder as when you learn the fight, even his first phase is fairly difficult.
You don't necessarily need chaos resist gear, the chaos resist potion and the cleanser is just fine. The thing that will save you a lot is knowing that it's generally better to dodge his katana attacks since they're the ones that build up Chaos. EXCEPT his extra weeby attack where he sheathes then quickly unsheathes it for a lightning fast attack. If you brink guard that, it staggers him something fierce.

That's when you remind him that you have the power of God and Anime on your side.

when he sheath the katana and the light goes out press block,he actually introduce that when get into the phase.
A very good answer has been given already, and the answer only gains more relevance the further you progress:

If you parry perfectly and still build up status, it's a dead giveaway to dodge the move rather than parry it.

But if you cannot be bothered to learn a boss like this - totally fine -, then they'll still go down within 2-4 jugs from the status brew should you choose to pack consumables ( which are basically shoved down your throat in this game, 'I got none' is a totally invalid argument ) against the status instead.

I saw this but I wasn't good enough to brink guard it unfortunately. I may have done it once or twice but that was fluke. :zote:

hey whatever works lol. but yeah it's purely a timing thing, he does the protracted sheathing animation, then there's a beat, and then the teleporting attack comes out. all 3 have the same timing and once you have the timing it's probably the easiest thing to counter and get a big punish from in his moveset.

Pretty sure you don't get the recipes before the Maluca fight.
