it's kinda like in nioh, killing all of them in every mission would be very time consuming
You can skip them and come back to any at any point
The spirits are just there to farm items for summoning. They're not linked to player deaths.
Having played through NG and NG+ and started NG++, you're both totally wrong. You'll see lots of death markers around dangerous areas in NG. But as you progress through NG+ you'll not only see far fewer of them (sometimes no more than a handful per mission), you usually only see them either in areas where people get pushed back, or around dangerous encounters.
In NG, you'll see 10+ littering areas with elites or dangerous packs or traps. In NG+, you might see one or two in the same spots. I think a few are hand placed by the devs (similar to Nioh), but for the most part, they represent where players died, similar to Nioh.
And that's what really matters, it's a Nioh mechanic, not a dark souls mechanic. Every single mechanic in this game is something from either Nioh, or one of the souls-like games made by Koei such as Wo Long.
Khazan is not really a souls-like, it's a nioh-like.
They forgot to copy the most important thing, Ki pulse, thats why this combat sometimes sucks ..
I'm in ng+ right now, and I see a TON of them, so not sure what that other guy's on about.
You can upgrade the helper spirit by collecting items from defeating them, as well as pick up one gear item per fight (normally). Defeating them can make the game easier.
It's probably people testing the system (in Nioh 2 there was a period where farming the revs was one of the best methods to farm gear) or hand placed by the devs.
