Can I still get the true ending?
EDIT: Thank you all for your suggestions! Just got confirmation from the Khazan Discord that resetting the missions DOES NOT CHANGE THE DIALOGUE CHOICE. So in case anyone else comes here looking for a similar answer, the only thing we can do is reload an older save before the Master of Chaos level and go from there.

So I've done all the side quests an was collecting all the lore items,
I didn't look anything up to avoid spoilers, but one of the jarlings mentioned 3 endings when I picked him up, so at some point I figured it would be those epic lore items.
I was playing through the game, until I got to the point of Ozma's final boss fight (saw the summon thingie).
So then I thought, now might be a good time if I'm on track for the true ending.
Missed one epic lore item, picked that up, and thought I was good.
Now Im reading that you need to have chosen a specific dialogue option with Daphrona to trigger this. I never got the the 'I muse know the truth' option cause at that point I was still missing an item.

I've read mixed comments from other players that they still triggered the true ending even if they chose the 'wrong' dialogue option with Daphrona, others say they didn't. So I'm a bit lost and frustrated.

The other save file I can go back to is pre-Reese fight and I really don't feel like doing that whole level again + the final level up until Ozma's fight.

Can anyone please confirm if Im good to go now to trigger the true ending?
Thanks in advance!

ive never seen people say they were able to get the true ending after picking a different dialog option but here is hoping you can. I doubt it tho.

To get true eding you need:
1- 15 golden items.
2- pick "truth" answer.
If you finished the game, you must do it again in NG+ (all items will remain in your inventory) to have another ending.
btw: if you have all 15 golden items 3 answers will get you 3 endings. "kill" = bad ending; "talk" = Normal Ending.

I havent finished the game yet. So what youre saying I cant get the true ending cause I picked the wrong dialogue option?

Is there a way to redo the level/mission or something. It really sucks how they just lock you out of this.

Maybe you can try reset mission, i'm not sure.

I saw in the settings and accessibility that there's a reset mission thing but it was blurred out. Do you maybe know more about when you can use it? I would mind replaying this final mission/level (Master of Chaos)

You should try to reset the mission where you select the answer for Daphrona. The reset mission option in Accessibility option will send you to the beginning of the mission.

However, I do not believe this let you pick different answer. It just resets your progress in your current mission and send you to start. The mission is still completed if you exist to The Crevice so I believe the answer you gave at first still prevails.

It is still worth the try to see if you can actually re-do your answer.

That's kinda weird gamedesign then, if you reset the entire mission but not the answer towards the end of the mission?? (not blaming you ofc) I havent completed the mission at all (never went into the Ozma boss fight) so maybe that helps. I will give it a try. I dont think I have any other option. :er_sad:

They should allow players to replay that segment and choose a different answer in case they want to see the 3 different endings without having to play the whole game again.

Yes! Please share your voice/opinion in their official Discord. They have a channel that if a message gets enough votes, it will get send to the devs:hollowknight:
I didn't look at guides to get the ending and I thought avoiding the Chains quest would get me a different ending. I completed the Chains quest afterwards to see if I could change choices and I couldn't, so I did my third run with the second ending and now I don't think I can get the true ending since I can no longer new game.
Just finish your game and start NG+. It will be much faster to get to the end cause:
1. You DO NOT need to find the soulstones and jarlings again but can pick up any that you have missed.
2. You DO NOT have to find the 15 pieces of Ozma's lore again.
3. NG+ is much much easier. Bosses dont change much but you are definitely stronger. I plowed through NG+ in a day because I just ran straight to the boss for every stage. I did this because I was missing Standing Alone achievement. Got true ending for both first and NG+ games. No extra effort for NG+.

You must however,
1. Finish the side quests. Not sure which are the critical ones but to be safe, just clear all the side quests. Its ridiculously short anyway. Quite sure Transcendent Sword and Chains of Charon is a must. Yeah, just clear it all to be sure.
2. Pick "Truth" when the dialog is offered to you.
3. Go mess up Ozma.
4. Enjoy true ending and achievement.

Strangely, NG++ is a little different. I noticed the bosses crush my stamina a lot harder and faster if I mistimed a block or got hit.

How is replaying the whole game faster than the devs adding in the option or, what I gotta do now, reload a previous save and go from there.

I guess its an easy thing to do for people who already planned to do another run (100% it) but that's not something for me.

Ahh, ok I understand now. Apologies then for the suggestion. Looks like your intention was just to clear everything, ending and all in one run.
I suggested to just do it again in the 2nd run because most souls players will replay NG+ and so forth.

But you have a backed up save game so all good. Double check it and you should have your true ending.
